This reminds me of a fellow I knew who was a dumpster diver and a 5c can scavenger, but had a high IQ like a savant. I said "John, if there was a nickel on one side of the street and a can on the other which would you be more likely to go for?"

There are also tax implications re: melting coins, what would the entrepreneur/criminal be able to deduct in business expenses; also environmental regulations that vary from state to state.

The article starts getting shaky on the facts, in the second half; but I offer it merely as an article relevant to the discussion. For reasons stated above, I say that there are much easier, simpler and safer ways to make money.

IMHO once survivalists think something is a good idea you have missed the boat. Start selling.
