Clean-up in aisle 3.
All the States incorporated daughter corporations for transaction of business in the 1960s or so. - Some voice in Van Pelt's head, circa 2006.

Hey, Inquirer: betcha didn't know that any items not resolved by the end of a particular session of Congress do not survive to be acted upon in any later session, and that the Constitution specifically defines treason -- and that this didn't qualify....

Y' mean that now, eighty years after it was introduced, after all of the parties are long dead, the poor bill still languishes in obscurity? It is still completely ignored?the inquirer wrote:The petition for Articles of Impeachment was thereafter referred to the Judiciary Committee and has YET TO BE ACTED ON.
Oh, the humanity.
And, inquirer, you might try inquiring about your hero McFadden. About how, shortly after he lost it on the floor of the House, he was dumped by his own party. About how he also on the floor of the House cited the "Protocols of the Elders of Zion", about how he opposed the confirmation of Henry Morgenthau as Secretary of the Treasury because he was Jewish - particularly since he believed that the FDR administration was already controlled by da Joos.
Ah, da Fed and da Joos, together again.

Re: Congressman Louis McFadden on the Federal Reserve
Somehow my contribution to this thread was lost.
Around 1978 someone put together a collection of McFadden's more abusive speeches and printed it as a small book:

McFadden ran as a Republican but in 1932 he had the brass to propose the impeachment of Pres. Herbert Hoover. In response the Republicans in the House ousted him from his various seniority positions and treated his nominations for patronage jobs as pure poison. His response was to become even more abusive and inflammatory. He was being quoted in the newsletters of Nazi sympathizers. In 1934 he lost to the only Democratic elected from his district in more than 20 years (and for 20 years into the future). In the two years remaining in his life, he earned some money as the celebrity speaker for ultra-reactionary organizational dinners ... and he seems to have spent much of that money on alcohol.

So he was basically an earlier version of Ron Paul...fortinbras wrote:Somehow my contribution to this thread was lost.

Re: Congressman Louis McFadden on the Federal Reserve
I am not sure of the analogy to Ron Paul, who seems to be very sincere and thoughtful.
McFadden appears to have been very chummy with the Federal Reserve while he was on top. He owned a state (not federally-affiliated) bank in Pennsylvania and it appears that, while he had clout on the Banking Committee, the Fed would do his bank little favors that were not normally done for banks outside the federal system. When he managed to self-destruct his political career, the favors stopped and just as quickly he turned into a rabid critic of the Fed. Also of Jews.
Up to about 1931 he seems to have fit in quite well and reasonably normal. From 1932 to his death in 1936 he seems to have developed a temper like a wounded rhino. I honestly suspect some health issue, such as drinking or a minor stroke, affecting his judgment.
