Only funny ha-ha to other stoned people unfortunately. Funny peculiar to everybody else.
Much as I enjoy the delights of Beelzebub's Broccoli myself it's a pretty anti-social drug for those who are not partaking. Stoned people are, on the whole, pretty boring.

I concur with Gregg. They are, in the majority of cases I've observed, very funny!

As funny as a dose of the clap.
I just don't get "stoner humour". The only two films I can think of that come close to being both "stoner" and funny are The Big Lebowski and Withnail and I but they aren't funny because of the stoner humour. They're just very well made films.

I side with longdog that most stoned people are just tedious. Marijuana seems to disable all parts of the brain except those devoted to thinking you're deep, finding everything hilarious, and getting more weed. And I'm not even anti-marijuana.

I've probably said this before but back when I was going through my first jobs at an alarming rate my boss, later friend, gave me some very valuable advice.TheNewSaint wrote: ↑Sat Jun 06, 2020 10:42 pm I side with longdog that most stoned people are just tedious. The gist of it was that everybody should at least once, and preferably for each new drug, keep a record of their deep and profound thoughts and revelations when they are high / stoned / tripping and read them back the next day. This will teach you the valuable lesson that your deep and profound thoughts and revelations are not enlightenment or even vaguely original. They are just shit you think when you are high / stoned / tripping.
Once you have got that out of the way you can decide if the drug in question passes whatever fun / danger threshold you have set for using it again, without thinking you are missing out on discovering the true nature of reality. Because it's not there.
It's a policy that's worked well for me for four decades.

Indeed he would. That's why my opinion of the good Mr Huxley is less than wholly enthusiastic.John Uskglass wrote: ↑Sun Jun 07, 2020 3:17 pm.The gist of it was that everybody should at least once, and preferably for each new drug, keep a record of their deep and profound thoughts and revelations when they are high / stoned / tripping and read them back the next day. The fact you can write in flowing prose about your "spiritual enlightenment" and "transcendent experience" through psychedelics doesn't mean it's any less a festering pile of self-indulgent bollocks. It just means you can pull the wool over your reader's eyes with finely crafted bullshit.
Aldous Huxley or fourteen year old amateur stoner... It's still just the drugs. I don't see why people want to make the experience into something it isn't.

Do you think the same applies to people who describe such states 'achieved' without the use of chemicals? The fact you can write in flowing prose about your "spiritual enlightenment" and "transcendent experience" through psychedelics doesn't mean it's any less a festering pile of self-indulgent bollocks.
I can see that if you're a strong materialist, all such 'revelations' are illusory.
My view would be that most drug experiences for most people are as interesting and significant to the rest of us as their dreams. However, I do think that for some people, some drug experiences can be useful and positive. That could be in a therapeutic context, or a creative one.
I have found some drugs useful for inspiration, but to turn that inspiration into something coherent has required sobriety.

Correct. Well... Maybe not all but the overwhelming majority.I can see that if you're a strong materialist, all such 'revelations' are illusory.
I agree 100%. Drugs can make you realise things that you hadn't realised before but I wouldn't call that enlightenment except in the most general sense and that can be achieved in other ways.My view would be that most drug experiences for most people are as interesting and significant to the rest of us as their dreams. Again I agree 100%.I have found some drugs useful for inspiration, but to turn that inspiration into something coherent has required sobriety.

Not just sobriety, but you need talent in the first place. Drugs and alcohol modify the brain; they don't activate heretofore dormant sections of it. If Aldus Huxley says the recreational substances took his writing to new levels, I believe him. But he was talented and educated for a start. For most people, smoking a bowl does not make them artistic or funny if they weren't already.

Re: Mark "Ceylon" Haining, Goofy GOODFer
If my experience is anything to go by the whole "inspiration and enlightenment" thing has a far more mundane explanation... Memory.
The revelations aren't really revelations at all. They are things you already knew but you have forgotten you already knew them. When your perception of time is messed up and you have temporarily lost track of cause and effect it's easy to mistake a memory for a new thought. And a new thought for a memory most likely.

I had my wisdom teeth pulled about 20 hours ago and I'm currently bouncing back and forth between "this hurts a lot worse than I thought it would" and "Man, I really love Codeine" So I'm going to watch it in a few when I go to bed.

Mickey Summers was at the heart of a campaign to get allegations of child abuse in care homes investigated
A man who was a key campaigner in the fight to expose historical child abuse in Nottingham has died.
Mickey Summers was a victim of child sexual abuse while in the care of Nottinghamshire County Council.
He was a core participant at the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA) probe into abuse in the local care system.
His friends and sister have paid tribute to a "fighter" and "inspirational" man.
Fellow campaigner David Hollas, 61, from Cotgrave said: "He gave inspiration and hope to others - if he could fight, they could also fight."
Mr Summers, photographed here at the Dirty Washing child abuse protest in 2015, was a core participant in the IICSA inquiry
His sister Debbie Bloud said his death was "devastating" for her and their other sister.
She said: "I am very very proud of him" and described his campaigning as, "second to none".
"He is leaving behind a legacy as far as I am concerned," she said.
Nottingham Coroners' Court said a post-mortem examination will be carried out to establish Mr Summers' cause of death after he was found at his Clifton home on Saturday.
It added the circumstances were not suspicious.
Mr Hollas said over the last couple of days the words "inspirational, "hope" and "fighter" keep coming up when people talked about Mr Summers
The IICSA inquiry heard complaints about decades of abuse at Beechwood.
Mr Summers, 67, was a vocal campaigner and spent years speaking out on behalf of himself and other victims.
In 2015 he was served an interim injunction by Nottingham City Council for his protests - although this never progressed to a full injunction.
Mickey Summers, with the megaphone, has protested loudly at council meetings and outside an official's house
He described the Nottinghamshire strand of the IICSA hearings as "amazing".
Mr Hollas added: "Like all survivors of abuse, Mickey was not blessed with a great life afterwards.
"He expected people [the authorities] to tell the truth and when they didn't, he became angry.
"He had to fight his demons.
"He had become [addicted] to drugs and alcohol but managed to come through the other side because of his own determination."
Mandy Coupland (right) said Mr Summers, dressed here as the grim reaper, was "very caring"
Mandy Coupland, who co-founded Nottinghamshire CSA Survivors Group with Mr Summers, said he gave "survivors a voice".
She said: "He... encouraged people to have that voice, gave people strength and gave people hope.
"He was a very inspiring person and brought so much to the table. He was very caring as well."
Ms Coupland added their survivors' group was given a Partnership Award from Nottinghamshire's Police and Crime Commissioner Paddy Tipping in November for increasing awareness of abuse suffered by children in care homes.
Leader of Nottinghamshire County Council Kay Cutts said: "Mr Summers, or Mickey, as he insisted I and my officers referred to him as, was a singularly determined and resolute campaigner.
"He sought both the truth of and, wherever possible, justice for the hundreds of people who as children were abused whilst in the care of Nottingham and Nottinghamshire councils.
"We hope that he rests in peace."

Ah, Jason of the family Dimisnee. Veteran of the flat earth UK and European tours which produced fewer arrests than we would have liked to see but enough to be entertaining.hucknallred wrote: ↑Tue Sep 15, 2020 4:42 pm If there's a bandwagon, Colon will be on it... I've not listened.....
Seems to have faded from view over the last few months but then again flat earth has rather sunk back into obscurity as most of the stalwarts have taken to not wearing masks as they shop for matches so they can warm themselves around a festive 5g tower fire.
I think he picked up his fotler infection from our good friend Allegedly Dave who is still quite a guru in flat earth circles though, again, not so much in evidence as the money seems to have dried up in those quarters.
