NIGERIAN SCAMS/FRAUDS

The Nigerian Advance Fee Scam is one of the most famous and has been around for quite awhile, but despite many warnings, continues to draw in many victims. This scam is now being used to target unsuspecting companies via the Internet and more seriously B2B eMarketplaces. In 1996, the Financial Crimes Division of the U.S. Secret Service received approximately 100 telephone calls from victims and potential victims and 300-500 pieces of related correspondence per day about this scam! Indications are that the advance fee fraud grosses hundreds of millions of dollars annually and the losses are continuing to escalate.
