Oops!

Paragraph references in that earlier message should be #35 & #49, NOT #35 & #39.

Sorry about that!

Nutcase. Let's charge the churches gift tax on all the free housing they provide to God. Calling yourself a House of God is just asking for it!

It's a barter transaction. God gets housing; the congregants get an ear to bend and the occasional answered prayer.

Except for the Sacramento News10 article, I haven't noticed any mainstream coverage of the story.

You might look for the FFRF to present the subject in their weekly radio program; perhaps as early as October 31.

Here's the link to the program information and content announcements:

PJI Moves to Intervene in Lawsuit Attacking Ministers' Housing Allowances

Contact: Brad Dacus, President, Pacific Justice Institute, 916-857-6900

SACRAMENTO, Calif., Oct. 22 /Standard Newswire/

(excerpt)

-- Sacramento-based Pacific Justice Institute is filing court papers this week to intervene in a federal lawsuit filed Friday by well-known atheist Michael Newdow.

The lawsuit challenges long-standing federal and state tax exemptions for housing allowances provided by churches and religious institutions to members of the clergy.

In the new case, Newdow represents the Freedom From Religion Foundation and several of its members. They are claiming that provisions of federal and state law that have for decades permitted tax-exempt housing allowances for ministers are unconstitutional.

Pacific Justice Institute is assembling a broad, diverse coalition of local ministers who would be directly affected if the Court rules in favor of the plaintiffs. PJI expects to file a motion to intervene on Wednesday.
