Re: 11/11/11
I understand that the reference is in regards to memory of American veterans who put their lives on the line (and tragically for some, paid the ultimate price) in defense of our country. And we should be thinking about that today and every November 11th, Veteran's Day (and Remembrance Day in other nations). This holiday originated as Armistice Day after the end of World War I and has been re-named since.
But I am not getting the reference to 2011. What specific event on 11/11/2011 are you referring to, Andyk? Or this a reference to the armistice being signed at 11 AM on November 11 in 1918?
The interesting thing about the signing of the armistice is that, despite the 11 AM start time, shelling continued on the Western Front for several hours until sundown.

Andy didn't mention 2011 in his post. 11/11/11 stands for the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918.The Observer wrote: ↑Mon Nov 11, 2019 3:35 pm I understand that the reference is in regards to memory of American veterans who put their lives on the line (and tragically for some, paid the ultimate price) in defense of our country. Wouldn't that be 11/11:11?

Re: 11/11/11
It's always puzzled me. Was it 11am Greenwich Mean Time (London) or 11am Western European Time (Paris) or 11am Central European Time (Berlin)? And did Belgium have two armistices?

Re: 11/11/11
Actually there were a few extensions to the initial armistice so you can say that Belgium had more than enough of them. Anyways, to answer your question:
1. It was agreed to at 0500 Paris time;
2. It was signed between 0512 and 0520 Paris time;
3. Terms included that it would come into effect six hours after signing, but was rounded back to 0500.
OK, so now we get the 1100 time for France and Belgium, 1000 hrs for the UK, noon for Berlin. (Just call me the observer of Great War trivia)
