This Is Sure to Work

Post by Dr. Caligari »

Over at LostHopes, someone asked this dumb question:
Tajismimi wrote:I've been sent a summons to appear and prove I should not have to show all papers and records for a particular time period. There are several affidavits on the Lost Horizons website. Any of them appropriate for a judicial/court sourced summons vs. the administrative IRS summons?
To which the aptly-named Missouri Mule gives this sure-to-work reply:
MissouriMule wrote:1. You have given them jurisdiction over you by opening the summons. The summons was an offer.

2. You have accepted their offer to try to prove a negative. An impossible situation when they are in control.

3. The burden of proof passes back to them when all offers are returned unopened. "Denied for Fraud" written on the front and back of unopened offers. Let them prove they are not committing Fraud.

Keep MM's thoughts in mind. When the US Marshalls come to your door, that's just an offer. Don't open the door or else you will give them jurisdiction. You should slide a piece of paper under the door with "Denied for Fraud" written on both sides. They will have to leave. That's what Ed and Elaine did and they've been left alone.

They completely left out the part about the Summoning Materia a la Final Fantasy 7 (7 because that's the tarot number for Justice). Normally, Summoning Materia calls powerful gods and creatures to fight on your behalf, but this is a special Summoning Materia called "CtC" which doesn't do any fighting at all. The FF7 manual says that the CtC materia can only be used by CtCers in battles with the government, it gains experience whether or not the CtCer wins... and I found a description on the internet of what it actually does:
Fictional FF7 Fansite wrote:When used, the skies darken with the blood of TPs and a distant speck is seen glimmering in the night sky. As the speck comes closer we can see that it's Pete Hendrickson riding a wave of empty promises. He lands upon the gentle earth and reveals a book made of toilet paper and spit-balls. He opens the book and money rains from the heavens. CtCers cheer. But before they can finish their celebration, the money evaporates in a cloud of smoke and a giant anvil called "Sanctions and Fines" drops from the sky and crushes the CtCers. The more experience the materia has, the bigger the anvil.

Except for the black helicopters, the utility shut-offs, confiscation of one of their vehicles, that "incident" at 4AM with the trailer, the attempt at passing a Fed through in the back of a dump truck, that pesky trial, the ankle bracelet, "kidnapping" Elaine and making her stay with her kin, the confiscation of the dental practice, etc...yep, they've been left alone.

Those are all "fictions", just ask Ed. He knows all about "fictions".

They need to get in touch with Van Pelt as soon as possible, or they're doomed.

Wait a minute. They're doomed either way.
