Scott F. Creasia, owner of Plumb Plumbing LLC, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Cindy Jordenson to 10 months in prison plus ordered to pay $331,932 in restitution to the Internal Revenue Service after his conviction by a federal jury of creating false partnerships and then claiming large losses to eliminate his tax liability in 1998 and 1999.
The sentence for such a conviction usually ranges from 24 to 30 months but Creasia’s attorney Thomas Fink had argued a long sentence would severely damage the business and negatively impact the employees and the ability to make restitution.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s office, evidence was presented in court showing Creasia became associated with Anderson’s Ark and Associates in 1998 and used a fraudulent tax scheme to form two sham partnerships that not only eliminated taxes for two years but allowed recovery of $150,000 in taxes from 1996 and 1997.
