At some point, a few years back, Hovind actually dared the IRS to come after him.

Maybe he tried that because he saw how well that tactic worked for Larken Rose.....fortinbras wrote:At some point, a few years back, Hovind actually dared the IRS to come after him.

And obviously didn't pay attention to the result, but then Dr D always thought he was so much smarter than everyone else, and had a "higher" power on his side, guess that didn't work out too well either.

There's a whole slew of standard tax protester goodness in there.
[This letter was originally posted with Hovind's name attached. Although explicit references to him were removed around the time of his indictment, there are still many clues of the true identity of the author.]

Yes, but one wonders if somewhere in some internet archive if the original with the identifying information does not live on waiting to ruin yet another frothy alibi? The internet truly gives weight to the old maxim "that one should be careful of what one writes, and to who one gives it", particularly in this age of archives.

Re: Dr. Dino (aka Kent Hovind) wants out of Tax Court trial!
A joint report was due in to the Tax Court by December 31, 2011.
The docket record has not been updated to reflect any action regarding that.
Is that unusual?
Any way to tell if that report was filed?
If it wasn't filed, what might be expected as far as postings to the docket.
It seems the Tax Court is not particularly efficient in managing its on-line docket record.
Sincerely,
Maury enthusiast!

Aside from his troubles with the IRS, being a TP, and a nutbag in general, WTF did Dr. D do to earn himself a change to "administrative security" and a new address-the ADMAX facility in Florence, CO?

IMHO it would probably deal with threats of some kind.

Kent is staying at the minimum security satellite prison outside the secure perimeter of the ADMAX itself.Jozef Bleaux wrote:WTF did Dr. D do to earn himself ... a new address-the ADMAX facility in Florence, CO?

Back to the original question at hand, has anyone heard or figured out why Dr D wanted to cancel the Tax Court case?

Re: Dr. Dino (aka Kent Hovind) wants out of Tax Court trial!
Nothing official about why Dr. Dino wanted to back out of Tax Court, but I figure it has something to do with realizing that he wasn't going to be able to play the games he's been playing with everyone else.
Or, maybe it's all part of the scheme to delay the inevitable until after he's dead.
He has managed to get his trial delayed and it probably isn't going to come up again for yet another year. The joint report is not even due until the end of this year.
In a sense, Dr. Dino is "wiiiiiinning".

A reference as a reminder:
--------------------------------------------------
UNITED STATES TAX COURT
WASHINGTON, DC 20217
Docket No. 4245-10
KENT HOVIND,
Petitioner,
v.
COMMISSIONER OF INTERNAL REVENUE,
Respondent
O R D E R
This case is before the Court on a petition seeking
redetermination of deficiencies in Federal income tax
and additions to tax under Internal Revenue Code
sections 6651(f), 6651(a) (2), and 6654 for tax years
1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006.
This case is currently calendared for trial at the
March 5, 2012, Jacksonville, Florida Trial
Session of the Court.
On November 1, 2011, petitioner filed a motion to dismiss
his petition under Rule 53, Tax Court Rules of Practice
and Procedure.
Rule 53 states
> "A case may be dismissed for cause upon motion
> of a party or upon the Court's initiative."
Petitioner's motion does not state any causes for
dismissal.
The motion reflects that petitioner understands the
consequences of dismissing his petition.
Respondent does not object to the granting of
petitioner's motion.
The Court disagrees with the parties that the case
can be dismissed without cause.
It is now a settled principle that a taxpayer may
not unilaterally oust the Tax Court from jurisdiction
which, once invoked, remains unimpaired until it
decides the controversy.
Est. of Ming v. Commissioner, 62 T.C. 519, 521 (1974).
See also Rule 123, Tax Court Rules of Practice
and Procedure.
The Court recognizes that petitioner is currently in the
custody of the United States Bureau of Prisons and will be
unavailable for trial at the March 5, 2012, Jacksonville,
Florida Trial Session of the Court.
Premises considered, it is
ORDERED that petitioner's motion to dismiss is DENIED.
It is further
ORDERED that this case is stricken from the March 5, 2012,
Jacksonville, Florida Trial Session of the Court.
It is further ORDERED that, on or before December 31, 2012,
the parties shall file a joint report as to the then present
status of this case.
(Signed) Elizabeth Crewson Paris
Judge

No objection from the Government to the motion because, I guess, the Government would be able to assess the liabilities and proceed to collect.

So, his defense strategy hasn't evolved? Shocker...he has offered no new evidence or arguments of merit to warrant relief.
