Sorry, wrong reference. Volcanoes seem to be generally associated with virgins, though...

Sam and Frodo were close-- but not that close. They were both still virgins at least until they got back to the Shire.Arthur Rubin wrote:I thought that required some mythical beings, such as a virgin. The Observer wrote:You are all wrong:

But you need to be near an active volcano vent when you recite it.

Which is why Frodo failed at becoming the ultimate sovrun citizen of Middle Earth and had to relocate to the West. Of course, sovrun schemes that fail usually drag other sovrun schemers under the bus as well; Sauron was no exception.grixit wrote:Sam and Frodo were close-- but not that close. I'm levying a fine on each or you for Q$50,000 for middle earth references in a US forum, knock it off, only Douglas Adams is allowed in any country.

Ohh contrarrrrreeee - I've taken tequila, laying chickens, bags of coffee, a wagon-load of barbed wire and a decent riding saddle as restitution for criminal acts.Randall wrote:We no longer take checks.

It's been over 40 years since i read that, so i don't remember all the lyrics. But the verse goes on to explain that the dead man had been well to do, on account of his horse and possessions, which included a fancy pistol. But he was found in an area where guns were prohibited, so Bean found him guilty of a violation, and fined him his horse and all his nice stuff. The Ballad of Judge Roy Bean wrote:
Then one day they found a dead man
Who in life had been a red man
So it's doubtless he'd been anything but bad...
