The denizens of Planet Merrill have now bestowed two gems of legal (ahem) scholarship upon us all. Names have been omitted to protect the clueless (although you can easily find them on their native soil).

First, we have the origin of the word "dollar":

"It came to be as rather interesting that U.S. currency are called "bucks" and that "dollars" sounds a lot like 'doula' both words for slaves except that buck was used for males, doula was used for females."

So I guess that the people who minted those Joachimsthalers, years ago, and all of those countries which issued "thalers" in imitation thereof, were simply anticipating the REAL origin of the word....

Next, we have the absolute troof about how we don't need no steenkeeng driver's licenses to drive a motor vehicle. We have, as an authority, a gen-you-wine State Senator from Arizona to thank. Just go onto http://www.savingtosuitors.com and look for the thread entitled Further proof from a state senator that all driving "licenses" are contractual scams!.

A license has none of the elements of a contract, ....

for which he cites several cases, dealing with other kinds of licenses, for the "none of the elements" phrase, and also lots and lots of cases dealing directly with drivers licenses and saying that drivers licenses are not contracts. Additional to the cases Berry cited in 1935, I can add: Rosenblatt v. Calif. State Bd of Pharmacy (1945) 69 Cal.App.2d 69, 158 P.2d 199 (dealing with a pharmacist's license); and State ex rel Anderson v. Brand (1938) 214 Ind 347, 5 N.E.2d 531, 110 ALR 778 (a teaching license); and several others that mentioned either of them.
