Indeed. What a narcissistic tosser he is. King Goof Haining has banned a member aiding a bunch of morons Get Out Of Debt Free, the very thing the site promotes. Excellent work Haining & you are as culpable as PToE.NG3 wrote:
Still, between his promotion of WeRe bank, his arbitrary censorship and warnings issued to those attempting to expose the scam, Haining is admitting partial culpability.

Re: Peter of England: He's going to be in REal trouble
Quite correct. It must also be said that the £20,000 credit becomes a liability on the bank. If anything goes wrong it is the bank that is on the hook. So, in many cases that liability is 'insured' by taking a security on your property. There are unsecured personal loans, but the interest rates are then substantially increased.PeanutGallery wrote: This isn't true. Largely it seems to be a confusion between a bank and credit. As an example lets say I take out a credit card with The Peanut Bank. The Peanut Bank is willing to advance me a line of credit worth £20,000 (or what Burnaby call's 'beer money'), The Peanut Bank can advance this level of money to me because it has a lot more money (hundreds of millions) in various assets held internationally. The Bank is willing to take a chance on loaning me the money because the Bank thinks I will pay it back based on my credit history.
As you pay off the loan, the liability on the bank decreases, until it returns to zero. No extra money has been created.
(£20,000 for beer? Burnaby is a bit of a cheapskate.)

Re: Peter of England: He's going to be in REal trouble
170959MM (Michael David Meehan) sent a cheque to BT on 28 May, and the bill on 24 August showed the amount as paid. So naturally he also paid his September bill with another WeRe cheque. (Reported in the "Any members still having success" thread.) So the first cheque took nearly four months to bounce.
Which was rather longer than his failures with council tax, gas and electric.

Some relevant reading for Mr. Meehan:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Check_kiting
http://banking.about.com/od/checkingacc ... checks.htm
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Check_kiting
Check kiting is a form of check fraud, involving taking advantage of the float to make use of non-existent funds in a checking or other bank account. In this way, instead of being used as a negotiable instrument, checks are misused as a form of unauthorized credit.
According to the United States Department of Justice, check kiting can be prosecuted under several existing laws including those against bank fraud (18 U.S.C. § 1344), misapplication (18 U.S.C. § 656), or required entries (18 U.S.C. § 1005). It can draw a fine of up to $1,000,000.00, imprisonment for up to 30 years, or both, and many first-time offenders with no criminal background have received stiff sentences. In addition to the federal penalties, state law often provides for alternate civil and criminal consequences.
