I'm eternally amused by the number of 'rebels' whose income won't stretch to a printer. They're £25 from Tesco FFS
JULIAN: I recommend we try Per verulium ad camphorum actus injuria linctus est.
SANDY: That's your actual Latin.
HORNE: What does it mean?
JULIAN: I dunno - I got it off a bottle of horse rub, but it sounds good, doesn't it?

Deep down, Crabbie is actually bricking it. Facing the abyss, and can't reverse because he'll lose face.in too deep springs to mind.
I must say I’m pretty disappointed with the support request. Anyway it don’t matter it was just a test to see how many in the group are awake, obviously not many. I’m really enjoying the challenge and there will be many more to come yet. When I was on another planet (if you know what I mean) a good few years ago, I made an amazing discovery. I was probably about 7 or 8 years old my grandad told me ‘we’re all going to die one day’! Well I was only a kid, and they never told me that when I started school, I was very upset for about a week. After that I thought ‘fuck it’ I’m gonna prove my grandad wrong. I’ve had lots of battles (won some lost some) and enjoyed the journey and still enjoying it, it really excites me. The amount of taxes I’ve avoided over the years you wouldn’t believe, too late now taxman it was over 6 years ago ha ha. Anyway the moral to my story, there’s no need to worry about anything because we’re all gonna die one day, so enjoy the challenge while it’s there.

Well, Crabbie for a start tax avoidance is not a problem. Tax evasion is another matter however. It is perfectly true that, regarding honest mistakes, the tax man can go back up to six years. The length of time will depend on if they believe the mistake was innocent or careless. But now Crabbie my friend, I am going to educate you a little bit here. I would suggest you sit down. If the taxman believes a deliberate attempt has been made to evade paying the correct amount of income tax he can go back twenty years. Hope that clears it up for you.

First let me say that I think Crabby really is dumbern' the average rock. I think that has been proven repeatedly to all our satisfactions. I also think that he is also in so far over his head at this point that there really isn't anything he can do to get out. I seriously doubt he has the odd 40K and change lying around to pay off his past due business rates, any more than he has the money to pay his current council tax. I would also suspect that he probably has been not paying his income tax all these years and that is owed as well. I seriously doubt he has sufficient to pay any more than a fraction of it even with the house and all his possessions sold. I think he is really well and truly in it at this point. He can't claim "innocent mistake" since he is well and truly aware of what he's done and has been bragging about it. He's for it.

Not as straightforward as ignoring but yes someone is on the wrong end of a £150,000 bill.

He said the nurse who faces £150,000 in charges told him: “She said I’ve got about 1,200 parking charges. She said ‘I get three or four a week and all I can do is write on them to stop hassling me and I send them back to them’.
That's all she can do? Absolutely nothing else? Such as, I'll just throw this out for discussion, not parking in a pay parking lot without paying?

Having 8000 staff parking permits and 1800 spaces makes this the Hospital Trust's responsibility as well.

Assuming 3 shifts worked I doubt if the the night shift is more than 1000, leaving about 3500 each for early and late turns. Nurses are expensive to train and becoming hard to retain at some hospitals. This sort of thing does not help. My local hospital recently built a 7 story car park just for staff, but the cost means that every street around the site is clogged all day with parked hospital worker's cars.
I have a lot of sympathy for the staff. Most probably cannot afford to live anywhere near cetral Cardiff and public transport is slow and patchy outside the city.

It is far from the simple matter of saying she should park somewhere else.

Perhaps they deserve some sympathy for not getting enough free parking but, as she found out, not paying in a pay lot isn't the answer. What did she expect a private pay lot to do? Be sympathetic and ignore her? Our two big Vancouver area hospitals, Vancouver General and Burnaby General both have large pay lots but don't provide free staff parking. Somehow staff makes do. Granted we may have better transit but no doubt the staff are still inconvenienced.

Same situation here in Calgary. Parking at any hospital is at a premium, but everyone is expected to pay. About the only benefit that employees have over visitors is that employees are paying the much cheaper monthly rate rather than the exorbitant daily or hourly rates. That being said, a standard employee perk in downtown Calgary office building used to be employer paid parking. However it's a taxable benefit so if you're allready in a higher tax bracket getting hit with a 45$ per day taxable benefit for parking in a prime location such as Bankers' Towers may make public transit a much more economical option.

Free parking in downtown Vancouver is, as far as I'm aware, extinct. Vancouver is a very expensive place by Canadian standards and downtown is a relatively small, very constricted area with few pay parking lots left. All but one of the street level uncovered lots have been turned into condos and office buildings.

The CRA is very zealous about taxing any free parking they can find. I have personal experience, my wife was reassessed to include it. She worked for a local college that provided free parking. The CRA does projects where it picks institutions (fewer and fewer) that provide free parking then goes through staff records to find who has a parking pass. They are reassessed on the basis of a full day's parking five days a week. They use comparable rates for pay parking in the area. As eric noted it can add up.

Here in Nottingham we're double plagued by the councils 'workplace parking levy'. Every employer with > 10 parking space pays about £400 a year, a space, to the council. To fund amongst other things our ridiculous tram extensions.

These costs are then generally passed onto the employees. It's a nightmare.

We also had Henry VIII's beard tax. More than 2 weeks growth and the taxman would be on your case.

Writing 'return to sender' or 'no consent no contract' would probably have resulted in your sudden death.

Yep, in those days the appeal system probably involved a specialist in the city who would measure your beard and make a final determination. Only problem was that the local tax collector removed your head to forward on later. :sarcasmon:

The hospital could just start a shuttle service to bring people to and from the remote parking areas.

There are probably a number of things they could do, but at the moment hospitals like this don't think it's their responsibility to do anything. I've seen a number of similar reports, and also situations where (say) a nurse's permit only covers parking for their shift, so every time they're required to work on they get a penalty ticket for overstaying.

Aren't parking fees prohibited by the Magna Carta or the UCC?

Yes, but its a redundant feature since the Magna Carta and UCC prohibit parking lots/car parks as well.

Back to the Crab Master, why is he so worried about this court date? Does he not realise that effectively nothing will happen on that day except a piece of paper being figuratively rubber stamped? He's carrying on as if he expected to be dragged off to prison the day after the court date. Of course he's also deluded enough to think that a bunch of his template letters is going to do some good (sent to the court of all places as well).
