Peacekeepers on the Land
Won't be long now before we're all ruled by Grand Juries and their executive branch the Peacekeepers. They are going to replace the corrupt corporate courts and policey men who enforce private contracts and the world will be a better place where everyone loves everyone and we're all free. Lets see how it's going to work, shall we?

I think one of the qualifications for a Peacekeeper post is to have no brains. It makes them invulnerable to straws. Neat trick if you can do it.rumpelstilzchen wrote:I would suck their brains out with a straw, sell the widows and orphans and go into South American Zinc.
Oh, and they're not overly attractive people which is why they band together in groups where they can buy an overpriced hoody to wear at demos so they can feel less like a loser than the other losers around them. Hence they're rarely married though sadly, due to the fact that some women drink themselves into unconsciousness in the company of aspiring Peacekeepers, they do occasionally breed.

Amusing as they appear from the outside, inside they're deadly serious. I wonder how long before they hurt someone. Obviously if they hurt themselves that's fine but idiots like this have a habit of dragging the innocent into their fantasies but the blood always turns out to be real.
Maybe we should open a book on when the first Peacekeeper "victory" will result in one or more of their number putting someone in hospital and ending up in the dock for assault or worse.

I agree. Sooner or later one of the more impressionable of the cult-like Crawford crowd is going to act out what so many in the group have going around in their heads. . .seriously attacking a cop. Kai Holloway, the hyper aggressive wannabe cop, Ceylon and a few others in the crowd have managed to run their mouths pretty good about what they'd do (and by inference what others should do) if confronted by the police in any way.YiamCross wrote:Amusing as they appear from the outside, inside they're deadly serious. The reality is that members of the group crossed the line at Crawford's eviction where they cussed, shoved and spat on the police. Crawford himself came within an ace of running down a couple of police officers with his car.
I hope I am wrong.

Re: Peacekeepers on the Land
I think it will probably be a bailiff that will feel the wrath of the Peacekeepers, however the Bailiff will either be with the police or the police will be following shortly after. If the bailiff has any sense they should 'allow' themselves to be arrested and wait for the constabulary arrive and request that the Peacekeepers involved be arrested for assault and kidnapping charges.
It would only be if the Bailiff fought back that I think things would start to get out of hand which would depend on the gusto with which the Peacekeepers went about their work. However it's important to remember a lot of these Peacekeepers are keyboard warriors and prone to over exaggerate both their physical prowess and courage.

So far the police have been polite and restrained.PeanutGallery wrote:I think it will probably be a bailiff that will feel the wrath of the Peacekeepers, however the Bailiff will either be with the police or the police will be following shortly after. I can evasion a couple of peacekeepers walking up to a bailiff and after berating him say they are placing him under arrest only to have the bailiff stand there impassively with a slightly bemused look on his face. So far it seems the peacekeeper's play book would have them tell the bailiff he's under arrest without taking him into custody, take the "case" to one of their phony grand juries and then cry like big babies when nothing comes of their antics.
But I fear that in the process of a "talking arrest" one of the peacekeeper wannabe cops will lose their cool and try to give the bailiff what the Crawford cult has already collectively decided they deserve. . .a good beating.

Re: Peacekeepers on the Land
A pity for the individual victim, but it'll be OK in the long run. If there is violence, then either the Police will have to start escorting bailiffs or the bailiffs will have to attend in larger groups (at an additional cost to the debtor). Either that, or a serious example will be made of the thugs who carried out the assault.arayder wrote:But I fear that in the process of a "talking arrest" one of the peacekeeper wannabe cops will lose their cool and try to give the bailiff what the Crawford cult has already collectively decided they deserve. . .a good beating.
Something will happen to restore the equilibrium, because the state cannot tolerate open, violent defiance of the rule of law. If crooks can beat a bailiff for doing his job, then next it will be a cop or a judge.

Re: Peacekeepers on the Land
This is one of the things that worries me. Not that these....people... will be violent but that the police will meet any resistance with greater power. A lot of people are stuck on the whole "why do the police have military grade weapons?" and seem to forget that the police 30 years ago didn't. And then when those officers ran into bank robbers toting military grade hardware and body armor they were slaughtered. Or the lovely guy who stole a National Guard tank and wandered around crushing cars. So.... now a lot of city police forces have surplus, heavy duty, mil-specced equipment. And have para-military SWAT teams. And some cities here recently have turned to full combat gear National Guard units to break up riots, like Baltimore. Where does the escalation stop? The State, like you said, cannot allow the kind of behaviour promised by these people and the people themselves will only use it to further make the State look totalitarian, even though they are only responding to a threat, and try to drive a wedge even deeper between the peoples and the State. So.... who blinks?Hercule Parrot wrote: Something will happen to restore the equilibrium, because the state cannot tolerate open, violent defiance of the rule of law. So far the police have been remarkably restrained.
The Tom Crawford cult won't give the police any credit for staying calm. The Crawford crew, being masters of self-victimization, has tried to make every touch by the police into an assault and every arrest into a tragedy.

I was happy the police went to Tom's eviction looking relaxed in tee-shirts and baseball caps. That didn't stop the morons from criticising their dress sense, of course. And I expect they had defensive gear stashed somewhere close just in case. But not going dressed for war helps to prevent a war, I think.
The morons think they can arrest anyone:
The morons think they can arrest anyone:
If the morons try, they will discover they are wrong, but they will achieve their objective of persuading the police to attend the next event with riot shields and batons swinging. I'm convinced that some of these morons want a war. First, they have to incite a riot. But they do it cautiously, and not on camera.Kai Holloway wrote:If arrested persons are found to be members of the police or security services they also will be the subject of complaints of treason and risk losing their employment and pensions.

Re: Peacekeepers on the Land
They only want a war if they can be as far as possible from the front lines. These agitators are the ones who push others into the fray while doing their best to avoid it themselves.
People like Kai Holloway will talk the good fight but wouldn't know the first thing about actually doing it. They'll all be hoping someone else throws the first punch so they can tell others to throw the second ones.

These people are clueless idiots, but it only takes one to actually hurt someone, and regrettably, and there is ALWAYS one who doesn't have an impulse governor. Also, stupidity like this grows exponentially as the common sense and intelligence decreases when it is in a group environment, and there is an old and valid maxim about such groups.
The fact that you sincerely and wholeheartedly believe that the “Law of Gravity” is unconstitutional and a violation of your sovereign rights, does not absolve you of adherence to it.

Yeah, they all want to be Robespierre, yelling "to the barracades! Convene the tribunals! Let there be People's Justice!" But they have nowhere near Robespierre's persuasive power, nor are the authorities providing sufficient provocation. Hence the great revolution remains a sputtering of little annoyances.
