The Government Accountability Office in a May 10 report criticized the Internal Revenue Service's fiscal year 2008 budget request, saying its tax law compliance recommendations lacked details regarding how the measures would be implemented and their effect on existing IRS personnel.
But GAO lauded IRS for its enforcement efforts since FY 2004, saying the agency has made "notable progress ... increasing the amount of enforcement revenue collected and enforcement staffing."
