`Sovereign citizen' jailed in car theft

A man who told Little Rock police he was a "sovereign citizen" was arrested Friday after officers say he stole a car at gunpoint.

About 12:45 a.m. Friday, Charleston Brown told police he was visiting friends at Asbury Park Apartments at 8500 Keller Drive when he was approached by a man who asked for a cigarette. The man then pointed a gun at Brown's chest, took his keys and drove off in his vehicle, police said.

Brown called police and officers soon located the vehicle at 36th and Ludwig streets. After officers stopped the vehicle, the driver, later identified as Darryl Talley Jr., 21, of 28 W. Windsor Drive, told police he was a "sovereign citizen" and refused to identify himself, a police report said.

Talley was identified by his fingerprints and charged with aggravated robbery, theft of property, attempt to influence a public servant and possession of a controlled substance after police found five packages of cocaine in the vehicle.

Talley was being held Friday night at the Pulaski County jail. Bail had not been set.
