Question on "United Nations of Turtle Island"

Post by Unidyne »

I came across a website for a pseudo-Native American "tribe" called the "United Nations of Turtle Island". They sell the usual stuff like license plates, ID cards, driver licenses and the like:
http://www.unitednationsofturtleisland.com/

Dead Giveaway: The application for the ID card requests you affix your thumb print and signature with RED INK!

Dripping with quasi-tribal references, it also contains a number of "sovrun" style legal mumbo-jumbo concerning copyright.

Seems that the REAL Native Americans know about these folks:

Anyone have any info on these people?

There was a thread here a while ago in them, on of the principle scammers even came on for a while. Then she tried (and possibly succeeded) to delete all her posts.

ETA link to old thread:

"Turtle Island" is the fakeloric "Indian" name for North America:

... so this is presumably some fake Indian tribal thing.

(Coincidentally, the United Nations campus in NYC is built on a spot once called Turtle Bay.)

I'd never heard of them but co-incidentally, look at the background of the video that has just been posted in another thread and there is a poster of theirs on the wall.

I seem to recall a creation saga in which the dry land we have today originates either from dirt being piled on the back of a swimming turtle, or the turtle being magically grown and transformed into dry land.

The Great Turtle. Seneca nation indians had a great turtle in their mythology that soil was piled upon its back to make a home for the sky-woman

There was another one that the whole world was the back of a great turtle also but I cant remember what it was. I believe it was of the Creek nation but apparently it was a common theme with the Native American nations.
