My triglycerides shot up 10,000 points just looking at this monstrosity - but I have to admit that it looks damn good.

I wish those here, a Happy Thankgiving. Here is a poem on this theme:

> LET US GIVE THANKS
>
> Let us give thanks for a bounty of people
> For children who are our second planting
> and though they grow like weeds
> and the wind too soon blows them away,
> May they forgive us our cultivation
> and remember fondly where their roots are.
>
> Let us give thanks:
> For generous friends, with hearts as big as hubbards
> and smiles as bright as their blossoms;
> For feisty friends as tart as apples;
> For continuous friends, who, like scallions and cucumbers,
> keep reminding us we've had them;
> For crotchety friends, as sour as rhubarb
> and as indestructible;
> For handsome friends, who are as gorgeous as eggplants
> and as elegant as a row of corn,
> and the others, as plain as potatoes and so good for you;
> For funny friends, who are as silly as Brussels sprouts
> and as amusing as Jerusalem artichokes,
> and serious friends, as complex as cauliflowers
> and as intricate as onions;
> For friends as unpretentious as cabbages,
> as subtle as summer squash,
> as persistent as parsley,
> as delightful as dill,
> as endless as zucchini,
> and who, like parsnips,
> can be counted on to see you throughout the winter;
> For old friends,
> nodding like sunflowers in the evening-time
> and young friends coming on as fast as radishes;
> For loving friends, who wind around us like tendrils
> and hold us, despite our blights, wilts, and witherings;
> And finally, for those friends now gone,
> like gardens past that have been harvested,
> but who fed us in their times
> that we might have life thereafter;
> For all these we give thanks.
>

Dinner will include a bacon explosion. I made mine so the sausage and bacon form a pinwheel. I also addes some cheese and spinach on the inside. I also used double smoked bacon, maple blueberry smoked bacon and garlic spice rubbed bacon and will use a nice glaze of pineapple wasabi sauce.

We ended up having an interesting Thanksgiving week. Last Friday my cousins father-in- law died about 2 hours before his step-mother died. So the father in laws funereal was on Tuesday and the step mothers funereal is tomorrow. We managed to have a big dinner at my house with a big turkey, mashed taters and all the normal stuff and then to my mothers for pizza with my cousin who just drove back from PA after seeing to his wifes family and his mother in law since his step mothers funereal is in southern MD and he still lives in WV. So hes spending the night at my mothers since I dont have the room here with the kids and driving to southern MD tomorrow for the next funereal. The fun we do have sometimes.

Funereal is how you've been feeling. The funeral is the ceremony to bury him. I've made money as a proofreader, and errors leap out of the page at me. I'm sorry for your loss, and my spelling fuss. Can't help myself!

We had the turkey, corn bread stuffing, and usual trimmings. Instead of mashed potatoes, since it was just the two of us, I roasted little bitty grape-sized potatoes whole in butter and they were yummy. My homemade pumpkin pies were a way of thanking my spouse for his excellent care of me while I was immobilized. Having both legs and one arm nonfunctional was awful for us both, and now that I'm down to just having the foot encased in a walking boot, life is better. But I really want to be able to dump the boot and drive again.

We always have Thanksgiving with a a group from our church, 1st Pres, hosted by a Sunday School class member at her condo on the Riverwalk. This year included our daughter, 2 Air Force recruits from Lackland AFB Basic, a homeless man who attends our church, a retired AF LTC and his wife(she is the widow of a former Provost Marshal of the US Army), a retired AF E-8, a retired DAF Civilian, a farmer snow-bird from Illinois, a retired AF guy who is the collections manager for a client -- all in all, an interesting group. Mrs. Prof and I baked (one of each) an apple, cherry, and chess pie and brought part of a pound cake. We had turkey, dressing, oyster dressing, homemade rolls, homemade cranberry salad, deviled eggs, green beans, mashed potatoes and Waldorf salad. A good time was had by all.

Thanks be to all and to our veterans and recruits.
