Doktor Avalanche's Prize
Since you won the pool, Doktor, you have a choice between a splendid 11 oz coffee mug bearing the picture of Ed and Elaine Brown (would that be a mug shot?) or a brand spanking new mouse pad featuring that classy Constitution Ranger badge.
What'll be, Dok?

Re: Doktor Avalanche's Prize
The mug, please. I'm off to South Korea in August and seeing how I'm going to be doing a lot of watchstanding over there I'd like to have something classier than a paper cup to sip my coffee in, even though it's Navy coffee.Demosthenes wrote:Since you won the pool, Doktor, you have a choice between a splendid 11 oz coffee mug bearing the picture of Ed and Elaine Brown (would that be a mug shot?) or a brand spanking new mouse pad featuring that classy Constitution Ranger badge.

*sniff* This is the happiest day of my life...

It's more like 3 million People's Liberation Army PRC and 1 million DPRK now, and things have gotten much better over there now since 1950.CaptainKickback wrote:Have fun in the ROK Dok. My dad visited Korea once. Really wasn't the high tourist season and things had not recovered from WWII. That and the threat posed by 1 million plus PRC army personnel and 500,000+ PRK army personnel really took the gloss off of things. That and the ocassional firefights during the "police action....." The BAR made him feel a little better though.
He found the Korean people to be nice and only had nice things to say about Japan and Hong Kong
And the bars have really stepped up. Mmm..soju!
But I do have to side with your dad: given the choice between Japan and the ROK, I'd take Japan any day of the week as much as I like Korea.

Unfortunately the wages haven't kept in step with the rising cost of R&R in the Far East. My bar bill is known far and wide throughout the Land of the Morning Calm.

A friend of mine is over there now on the border. I believe his job is to go around and give advice on rules of engagement issues. (he's a JAG and a Captain in Army) He likes it so far, but things can get a little boring at times. Best of luck over there.

Even when things aren't a little interesting, it's still interesting at the DMZ.Paul wrote:Beats the hell out of the alternative -- times when things get "a little interesting" make you long for the boredom.but things can get a little boring at times.
Rules For Conducting Yourself Accordingly At The DMZ
Your Uncle Dok would like to take this opportunity to give you a few tips to help you enjoy your stay at the Korean DMZ without starting an international incident.
Do not make faces at the North Koreans. They will shoot you.
Do not make obscene gestures at the North Koreas. They will shoot you (and they know what the highway salute is).
Do not try to stare down a North Korean. They really hate that and they will shoot you.
Photography is allowed at the DMZ until such time the North Koreans get pissed off at you snapping pictures all over the place and threaten to shoot you.
The North Koreans are allowed to make faces, obscene gestures, engage in stare-downs and snap all the pictures they want. If you have a problem with this, bullets are their preferred method of conflict resolution. In other words, they will shoot you.
This concludes our lesson for today on Conducting Yourself At The DMZ. Tune in again tomorrow for our next episode: "Kimchee - Tasty Side Dish or Insidious North Korean Plot?"

How wonderful is in in Kim-land? The Chinese (PRC) has built massive fences along the shallow parts of the Yalu River (which seperates N. Korea from the PRC. Eventually there will be a fence along the entire border, with just a few, heavily manned, heavily armed checkpoints on bridges.
Why? Is it to keep the Chinese from flocking to the socialist paradise of North Korea? Nope. it is to keep out hundreds of thousands of desperate, often starving North Koreans from bum-rushing the border to flee Hell on Earth.
But Dear Leader and the ruling military elite do not care because they whored out their principles decades ago for a life of luxury built on the backs of the dead and starving.
Not to worry - he's gonna get his soon.

I'm partial to the cabbage and hot radish. The hotter the better.Nikki wrote:Dr. A.
Aah, but which kimchee? Cabbage, hot radish or sweet radish?
For everyday use, I prefer the sweet radish.
For sinusitis, cabbage.
I reserve the hot radish for visitors from the southwest who are bragging about their chili peppers.

Nothing socialist about North Korea, it's bronze age monarchy. The leader isn't a dictator, he's a pharoah, a god on earth. A mere dictator would have been eaten by now.CaptainKickback wrote:Ah yes, the workers' socialist paradise that is the People's Republic of North Korea. No lie, my eyes started watering reading that post. I'll just stick to ketchup, thank you.CaptainKickback wrote:WIMP!! Try some seriously hot nukmam sauce, or real good fresh wasabi.
Eat stuff like that and serious salsa and your digestive tract will be squeaky clean and parasite free. It will also help boost your metabolism and energy level and as a bonus, the salsa and kimchee are a serving of vegetables.
Kimchee and some hot-n-spicy Spam - breakfast of champions baby!!
Note to self - go to Marukai, get kimchee and hot-n-spicy spam for vacation...... hellz yeah

The heat blast from the kimchee ablated my digestive system a long time ago. The Research Department of the Illuminati Division has requested I donate it to them after I'm done with it: something about a multi-purpose high-grade stain remover and retroactive contraceptive...Nikki wrote:For the sake of posterity, please remove your entire digestive tract from your organ donor's list.Doktor Avalanche wrote:I'm partial to the cabbage and hot radish. For an interesting contrast between North and South Korea, a picture of the two countries at night is startling. Take a look at this picture and zoom into the Korean peninsula.

If the people of North Korea saw this picture, they would surely flee south.[/url]
