Re: Eagle Cam
I'm a little late to the party and I don't see any eggs, much less baby eagles. I blame the piggies. Set up the slingshot and let's get this party started.Demosthenes wrote:For those of you so inclined, the first of three bald eagle eggs is beginning to hatch in Decorah, Iowa.

Wait, the eggs are still unhatched. The piggies shall not win!

Re: Eagle Cam
The Eagle cam is quite the hot topic around these parts. This is actually Eagle cam part II.

Re: Eagle Cam
I clicked on this afternoon's historical clips and saw pipped eggs!
BTW, here are several more raptor webcams: red tailed hawks, ospreys, more eagles, peregrine falcons, and California condors with their 16-day-old chick.
Sadly, no kestrels.

Thanks. I've got the pop out video on my screen and find it soothing and interesting.

Re: Eagle Cam
Eaglet #1 is now halfway out of the shell. Eaglets #2 and #3 may take a few more days. The eggs were laid several days apart.

Re: Eagle Cam
This morning the third eaglet fledged (first independent flight). All three are still returning to the nest throughout the day.
The Decorah EagleCam is scheduled to be turned off on June 30th.

The oldest eaglet (D12) was fatally electrocuted this morning when he landed on a power pole.

They found his electrocuted body at the bottom of the power pole and shipped his remains (as required by law) to the National Eagle Repository in Colorado.Doktor Avalanche wrote:And that was actually shown?Demosthenes wrote:The oldest eaglet (D12) was fatally electrocuted this morning when he landed on a power pole.

D14 has been wired up with a transmitter and as soon as he leaves his nesting area, you can track his movement by GPS. DNA tests have found that D14 is a male. About a week ago, he carried a large, wet, flopping fish to the top of an electric pole and got zapped. So far, he seems ok.

Re: Eagle Cam
The Eagle Cam is back up and two of the three eggs hatched during the last two days.
I just watched the babies being fed, but they weren't on camera very long. It's snowing today.
