Re: Chad Prater convicted
His sentencing is May 24th and it is thought that he will have 33 years in prison so he will be I think 104 when he gets out. I think then he can go into a nursing home with medicaid and he will be able to live off of social security.
Re: Chad Prater convicted
It won't be a 2 million dollar nursing home but someone will take care of him.

Is there prisons that like with bathrooms that are like behind those folding chinese doors...and do they allow like blowdryers? I mean like are there prisons where you have like good meals and stuff... like robert denero and al pacino? I hope the conditions aren't too bad. Like some people especially men don't care where they sleep. they can sleep in an efficiency. or a studio. some men don't even care what they eat.

Generally speaking, no. Even what are frequently called "Club Feds" - Federal Prison Camps, or "FPCs" - are still jails. See this BOP page for the general descriptions.inteligirl wrote:is federal prison nice. like with fresh fruit and like you can play cards and wear your own clothes. like in those movies. where federal prison is more like a country club?
Where BOP could designate Prater is a complicated question. This BOP document details the current designation criteria. As you can see, many factors are involved - criminal history, length of sentence, previous incarceration, nature of current offense and so forth. Moreover, an inmate can be redesignated while serving his sentence. If I had to call it on the very limited information available, I'd say that Prater would start in an FCI (medium) and quite possibly wind up in a camp.

Sarasota man gets 28 years in prison for tax scheme
TAMPA — A 71-year-old Sarasota man was sentenced Monday to 28 years in federal prison for operating a tax avoidance scheme.
Carel A. Prater, who also goes by the name of Chad Prater, was convicted in a U.S. Federal District Court of the Middle District of Florida jury trial of several violations of federal laws and codes, and for making false statements to a grand jury.
Judge Steven Merryday also ordered Prater to pay $440,000 in restitution to the Internal Revenue Service and fined him $25,000.
During the trial, evidence showed Prater ran a scheme where he sold services that he claimed would legally remove his customers from the federal tax roles.
He also prepared false tax returns and bogus documents for his clients and submitted them to the IRS.

SARASOTA MAN SENTENCED TO 28 YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISON FOR TAX AVOIDANCE SCHEME
Tampa, Florida - U.S. Attorney A. Brian Albritton announces that Judge Steven D.
Merryday today sentenced Carel A. Prater, a/k/a Chad Prater (71, of Sarasota), to 28 years
in federal prison in connection with a tax avoidance scheme. The court also ordered Prater
to pay $440,000 in restitution to the Internal Revenue Service and a $25,000 fine. Prater
had been convicted following a jury trial of corrupt interference with the Internal Revenue
Laws, aiding and assisting the filing of a false tax return, failure to file a tax return, criminal
contempt, structuring transactions to avoid reporting requirements, and making false
declarations before a grand jury.
According to evidence presented at trial, Prater engaged in a fraudulent scheme to
interfere with the internal revenue laws by selling services that he claimed would legally
remove his customers from the federal tax system. Prater advocated the position that
income earned in the United States is generally not taxable, and, in exchange for fees, he
prepared false tax returns and bogus tax documents on behalf of his customers that were
submitted to the IRS and recorded in the public records. Prater also advised his customers
to conceal assets and income from the IRS. Between 2000 and 2003, Prater’s gross
receipts exceeded $2 million.
In December 2002, a federal district court in the Middle District of Florida had
enjoined Prater from promoting his anti-tax views and business. Prater violated that
injunction and subsequent orders from the court by continuing to provide his false tax
advice to customers and concealing revenue derived from his business. He also made
false declarations to a grand jury investigating the matter when he voluntarily testified on
October 1, 2008.
United States Attorney A. Brian Albritton stated: “The sentence imposed by the
District Judge in this case reflects the seriousness of the crimes committed by the
defendant. The Court’s sentence serves as an important deterrent to others who may be
inclined to violate the federal tax laws.”
John A. DiCicco, Acting Assistant Attorney General of the Department of Justice Tax
Division, said, “Sentences like this send a loud and clear message that illegal tax defiers
will be investigated, prosecuted, and subjected to the full punishment of the law for their
actions.”
Linda J. Osuna, Special Agent in Charge of the Internal Revenue Service, Criminal
Investigation, Tampa Field Office, said: “The object of these schemes is to defraud the
government and the taxpaying public. The IRS-CI will vigorously investigate and prosecute
those involved in these schemes.”
The case was investigated by the Internal Revenue Service-CI, Tampa Division, and
Federal Bureau of Investigation, Miami. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States
Attorney Robert T. Monk and Department of Justice Trial Attorney Michelle M. Petersen.

I am taking back my former statements that I made about Chad Prater. I don't believe that he derserved the harsh sentence that he received , I have grown up a little since last, and I would be willing to help Chad in any way that I can.

BOP Locator says he's presently residing at their Jesup facility. Contact information is here. His BOP is 50721-018 and he's under the name Carel Prater, not Chad. Not sure if that makes a difference.grixit wrote:I'm sure someone here can post his current contact information.

Projected date of release: July 5, 2033.
So, he's 74 now, and he'd be about 95 years old upon release.
If he's a good boy.
Holy guacamole.
