Quatloos Get-Together Thursday 4/18 in DC

Post by sooltauq »

At least me and Taxman will be at the Lobby Bar of the Hyatt Regency Capitol Hill from 6:30p onward on Thursday 4/18 -- be there or be square.

I'll see if I can get someone to watch the kids for awhile.

I'd love to but there's that 3,000 mile gap between Lotus Land and the Beltway. Pick Seattle sometime and I'm on board.

Y'All should reall consider a mid-winter meeting down here in South Carolina.

First, it's a decent escape from the nasty winterness up north.

Second, it's such a totally wacko state that we could spend quite a while discussing it's total inanity -- without regard to political parties.

Third, the drive to DC is SO unenjoyable.

Fourth, housing will be free for the first five applicants.

If anyone ever decides to convene a meeting in Boston, there's a nice beer hall run by the Harpoon microbrewery, overlooking the waterfront. It's not a restaurant, and the only food which they serve are pretzels made from grain used in brewing beer; but in three short months it's become wildly popular.

DISCLOSURE OF SELF-INTEREST: My son was one of the people who helped open the place; and tonight he's working there are a "Beer Captain".

I'd love to but I'm up at the lake (Deep Creek). Have a great time.

After going through what I would have to do to be able to be there on a Thursday night, I'll have to bow out. Even with a babysitter I figure I would spend about 3 hours traveling back and forth just to be there for a half hour and be tired there and the next day for work. On a weekend I don't have the kids I wouldn't care or if you were in Baltimore I wouldn't care. For me to get there around 6:30 means me leaving my house around 5 on a weekday.

That one I might be able to do, is my exes weekend IIRC. What times are you talking about and where is it?

University Club:

1135 16th Street Northwest Washington,
DC 20036, (202) 862-8800, info@universityclubdc.com

I should be in on Sat. afternoon, but will have dinner plans around 8; as for Sunday, probably in the morning. I think there are meetings on Sun. aft. and evening.

I'll post more later, as my schedule firms up.

The Haytt Regency Capitol Hill is 400 New Jersey Av. NW, just a couple of block southwest of Union Station .....

My advice is: parking is iffy in that neighborhood, park elsewhere and take the Red Line subway to Union Station, and walk to the hotel. Don't be surprised if you find yourself in the bar next to a lot of law librarians - today is Lobbying Day for the Amer. Assn. of Law Libraries.

Many thanks to Taxman and Fortinbras for being so welcoming to a "newbie" last evening at the Hyatt. A grand time was had by all (including one guy we didn't know but dragged in anyway).

Next time anyone is in DC, first round's on me.

Nice meeting both of you as well. I'll have to remember to stop by his grocery store the next time I'm up that way. We should make sure to wear our Quatloos gear next time. I still laugh when I think about the response Fortinbras received when he walked around with a piece of paper that said "Q?"
