Michelle Williams' dad loses appeal

2 hours, 4 minutes ago

Michelle Williams' father, a prominent stock market trader, lost a court appeal Friday against a second U.S. attempt to extradite him on tax evasion charges.

Three federal court judges dismissed the attempt by Larry Williams, 64, to stop the U.S. and New South Wales state courts from taking steps to extradite him.

Williams, a resident of the Virgin Islands, is wanted by the Internal Revenue Service on charges of willfully attempting to evade $1.5 million in taxes from 1990 to 2001.

A Sydney magistrate is now free to consider the U.S. extradition request. A hearing date has not been set.

Australian police, responding to a request from U.S. authorities, arrested Williams in May 2006 after he flew into Sydney to begin a monthlong speaking tour in Australia and New Zealand. He has been free in Sydney on $857,000 bail.

His 26-year-old daughter, Michelle, received an Oscar nomination for her performance in 2005's "Brokeback Mountain," playing the wife of Heath Ledger's character.

Ledger, 28, and Williams are the parents of a daughter, Matilda, who was born in October 2005.

I'm not sure which actor was Heath Ledger, so is this gal the smokin' hot brunette or the homely one?

In an earlier era he might be called a 'gunslinger.' He's a professional trader and trading guru. He won the Robbins Trading Championship on more than one occasion. His daughter has won also.

One of his claims to fame was turning $10,000 into $1M trading futures in one year's time. Seeing that he may have attempted to evade taxes certainly colors his reputation. You'd think anyone with that kind of talent would find it relatively easy to pay his taxes.

Of course, there's always the ups and downs of a manic depressive personality.

Larry Williams is no TP or any sort of whack-job for that matter, at least he wasn't the last time I talked to him back in 1980 when he had funds under my management in the futures markets.

The charges involve fake documents and multiple bank accounts. Weird. Larry always seemed to be a successful guy. Maybe he fell for some sort of scam. Or, maybe he's just an evader. He's been fighting extradition for over a year.
All the States incorporated daughter corporations for transaction of business in the 1960s or so. - Some voice in Van Pelt's head, circa 2006.
