Governor Worth's 1868 inaugural speech? Very enlightening, but as I'm sure you will point out, this guy could not know how the Feds and the state wanted things to be right?

In the midst of the progress of these events we are astounded by a proposition,
originated by North Carolinians, and brought before Congress under auspices calculated
to alarm us, that North Carolina, one of the original thirteen, is no longer a State, but a
territory of the United States.

The scheme proposes that a new Convention be called, the members of which are to
be elected by voters with qualifications prescribed by Congress, including negroes,
excluded from voting by our Constitution. This Convention, thus elected, is to frame a
new Constitution for the District formerly known as the State of North Carolina.

Here's a hint, PD.

So what's your point -- or are you going to play word games, just like you've done with every one of your threads?

You really are an ignoramus. No knowledge of history. Even less of law. And no ability to understand what you allegedly read.

Most (or all) of the states that seceded before or during the Civil War adopted constitutions that asserted their independence from the Union. Following the Civil War, Congress required as a condition of re-entry to the Union that those states adopt new constitutions, recognizing the federal government and incorporating the provisions of the Thirteenth Amendment. Not surprisingly, southern politicians objected, but had no choice but to comply. It is this process to which Worth refers when he said that Congress was legislating that North Carolina "is no longer a State, but a territory of the United States" - that Congress was telling them how they must handle their own affairs. To an extent, he was correct. Next time, don't secede.

North Carolina in fact adopted a new constitution in 1868. It forbids slavery. I'm sure Worth was disappointed. Since you appear to approve of Worth, perhaps you are too.

I will have the last word. If you don't like that, perhaps you'll decide to inflict your brand of stupidity on someone else.
