Spitting into the face of a Policeman if dealt with by a Magistrate's Court could carry a 6 month sentence, or could also be passed to a Crown Court for sentencing.

Whether you spit on them or kick them in the nuts it's the same summary offence, 'aggravated assault', carries the penalty as detailed above, 6 months and/or up to £5k fine, in the case of a copper it's labelled up as 'assaulting a constable in the execution of his duty'.

It's a relatively minor offense in sentencing terms, although I'd imagine if you did a serious damage you'd be charged with additional more serious charges, I don't really know, I've never felt the need to beat the crap out a copper.

All of the above you described would be classed as it, unless the copper is acting outside of his authority, but you'd have to be a really brave person and totally sure of the circumstances to try and restrain a copper, at school we were taught, never touch a copper without their invitation, as it's assault if you do.

In NYS, I believe attacking a Police officer can lead to up to 7yrs in Jail. I only know this because they have a sticker on busses that say that attacking a bus driver can result in a 7yrs in prison, because they are treated the same as if you assaulted a cop
