Given her persistence in ignoring court orders I can see a bit of jail time in her future.

Re: Rekha Patel loses her house
Lord, what a psychopath this woman is. Blah blah I already paid blah blah I'm being tormented blah blah they wouldn't answer my questions blah blah unlawful actions against me blah blah I will be requesting damages.
This part of the article seems noteworthy:
This story is a classic case of "journalists are faced with the daily choice of painstakingly researching stories or writing whatever people tell them, and both approaches pay the same."
This part of the article seems noteworthy:
This paragraph makes no sense, because it omits the key point that Ms Patel disregarded the engineer's advice and did the work she wanted to do. This is what happens when you only get one person's side of a story and don't investigate any of what they say.At this point both parties seemed content to accept the engineer’s advice, but that solution did not apparently satisfy Patel’s Neighbour Mrs [Name Omitted By Request], who a month after completion of the work ,sent Miss Patel a solicitor’s letter accusing her of breaching ‘The Party Wall Act’ and demanding the “damaged stones replaced.”

Are there any judgements or transcripts from her legal proceedings?

Re: Rekha Patel loses her house
I am a bit confused here. What part of, you lost the case, and paid damages, you have to also pay legal fees, does she not get. It cost her neighbor a decent amount of money to fix a situation caused by Rekha, why should she not recoup the cost involved, from the person who breached the rules, and caused the lawsuit?
I get that she doesn't think the costs are appropriate, but that isn't up to her, I am sure the lawyers provided itemized billings for time spent on this case. Why should her neighbor be on the hook for these fees, as the only reason they were incurred, was because of Rekha's disregard for the law, and she didn't do the right thing in the first place.
I hope her actions result in more costs deducted from her equity, and some real jail time. She need to learn a lesson here, and admit she messed up here, and pay the consequences. Alternately, she could have paid them to stop the claim, but then sue them directly to recover any unnecessary amounts. But oh no, Rekha knows best, and the law should work like she wants it to, tough, it doesn't. Work within the law, and she could still be legally in her home. Another idiot, egged on by guru's with the end result, the loss of her home. Great job!

It's what we used to call sloppy, lazy journalism when I was in school, now I think they just call it business as usual.TheNewSaint wrote:Lord, what a psychopath this woman is. Same here. I remember once failing an assignment because I spelled the name of a local theater group as Theater instead of Theatre (this was considered a fact error). And that was the 1990s. The poor writing and research that makes it into mainstream media just gobsmacks me.notorial dissent wrote:It's what we used to call sloppy, lazy journalism when I was in school, now I think they just call it business as usual.

The newspaper (cough) has edited the original.
Back to Ms Patel. How much does she think lawyers who specialise in property rights and the Party Wall Act cost?

Reminds me of the Manbeef hoax in the early days of the Internet. Some idiot at a college newspaper thought this obviously fake website actually sold human meat, and wrote a passionate plea against it. The newspaper responded the same way, removing the article rather than own up to the mistake (or, heavens forbid, fire the journalist for gross incompetence). And we wonder why modern journalism is so poor, and newspapers wonder why they're going out of business.

She probably doesn't think the Party Wall Act exists. I note that the article put "Party Wall Act" in scare quotes, as if this were something the law firm made up, and not actual UK legislation whose existence is trivial to verify. Ditto for "damaged stones replaced", as if this were an unreasonable demand in light of the preceding events. What blatant editorializing on Ms Patel's behalf.ArthurWankspittle wrote:How much does she think lawyers who specialise in property rights and the Party Wall Act cost?
This sort of poor journalism propagates sovcit theories. It lets nutcases like Rekha Patel tell their loopy fantasies in a venue that citizens have a tendency to trust. It lets obvious flaws in the story pass without question. It omits important details, like that Patel disregarded every other effort to settle the dispute, and that her "offensive" consists entirely of failed FMOTL theories. And whenever a dissenting opinion should have been heard, the story hides behind "could not be reached for comment", something I find very unlikely to be true.

Re: Rekha Patel loses her house
You're absolutely right, The New Saint. I rang Cogent Law at different times the last couple of days and got through to the switchboard straight away! "Phone constantly engaged" = lazy journalism. Doubt the Tameside Reporter contacted the neighbour either. Plus they spelt Rekha's name wrong! Plus they said 8 bailiffs instead of 4. I doubt there were 20+ police officers too. They've taken her word as gospel, yet she's a pathological liar. I've been following this story since the June eviction and it's interesting how soon Rekha Patel has forgotten her original lie of "the thackstones never existed". In this article she now accepts they did exist. Her "further historical evidence" at the High Court Appeal was that a previous owner of the house said the stones never existed. So she's gone to the High court twice with this lie and wonders why she has a legal bill of £72k to pay. You have to have good memory to be a good liar.

This is what someone posted on the eviction fraud of the banks against Rekha Patel
The irony of advising to 'strip these gits of their homes' on a Facebook page allegedly devoted to helping people stave off eviction would be of course, entirely lost on them!!Mark Taylor like i said before get a HUGE cost lien on them and clean out their bonds.... if not enough take all their personal assets strip these gits of their homes, property.

Bingo. As for "could not be reached", the neighbor Ms [Omitted Upon Request] was quoted in earlier stories on this matter, so I find it surprising she'd have nothing to say about this shameless act. And if that were the case, I would expect the article to say [name omitted by request] declined comment, referred the matter to her attorney, etc., which would indicate the journalist at least asked her for comment. I doubt they tried to reach her at all.He Who Knows wrote:They've taken her word as gospel, yet she's a pathological liar.

That's assuming they ever left their offices in the first place. With this quality of journalism, I'm not.

The Tameside Reporter is a dying newspaper with a paid-for circulation less than the average kid's social media site. It closed down in 2012 but the editor who wrote this inaccurate story - Nigel Skinner - gave it the kiss of life with 15,000 free circulation. Think he'd have fared better going back to journalism school.

Re: Rekha Patel loses her house
Seems to have gone quiet on the western front with this one. Rekha has not posted in EFOTB since she posted up the newspaper article link. I guess she is probably still squatting. I doubt the neighbour would willingly let things lie for this long after all the trouble she's caused.

Bit left field, but there is the small possibility that she came to her senses and came to an arrangement that both parties were satisfied with. And the whole retake and squat is just bravado for the benefit of the GOODF crowed.

It may also have occurred to someone that evicting a teacher (if she still has a job) when they're at work could be easier than trying during the school holidays...
