Jason Matthews - Sectioned Petrol Fan

I wasn't sure whether to start this thread as there seemed a general lack of FMOTL essence to the story. However, he now seems to have washed up in ETFOTB in need of advice - so, we can assume some madness to follow.

Jason recently had a 3 day armed police siege at his house. They believed he had doused the place in petrol and was an imminent threat: http://www.harrowtimes.co.uk/news/14819 ... day_siege/

I'm not sure where the eviction element comes into it.He's seemingly light on facts, but thats par for the course.

Mr Matthews Facebook page also reportedly contains a number of posts claiming that the Government are conspiring against him.

He also used the page to show support for right wing and pro-Brexit groups.

He then wafts up on EFOTB a few days ago to garner support, no doubt a private prosecution against the police or a doomed attempt to retake the property:

Which throw me across the room into the wall ,, and then I got hit from the front door by another fire hose,.. Which throw me against my oak wardrobe.. I could see bullseye on my bed getting hit in the face with the fire hose ..so I jump up on to my bed .. And place my head in front of the hose to help bullseye getaway ... ... Then the police from the window hit me again with the fire hose .. Which again throw me across the room and smashing me into the wall .. And all the time I had my hands up .. And asking what the fuck hell are you trying to kill me !!!! .. Then two police grab me and throw me onto the floor. And put my face into 3 inches of water left by the fire hose the police used .... It was like they was going to droned me there and then.. I shit my self then and only then ... This is the Britain we live in people.. This could happen to you next with Mays government cutbacks.. The WPM wants change .. Don't you all xxx vote for working people to run the country.. WPM

I genuinly worry for the guy. He's clearly disturbed and prone to erratic choices leading to all sorts of danger. Now it seems he's gravitated towards the FMOTL nutjobs, things can only get worse. Defo one to keep an eye on.

Why do I have the niggling suspicion that there was a good deal more going on that our bright light seems to allude to??? Somehow I just can't see the police going to all the trouble to hose down someone for lack of anything better to do. It would seem to me that on appearances alone, that Mathews is a great number of fries short a Happy Meal. Sounds to me like sectioning is definitely what he needs, and then some serious therapy.

I can't help thinking there's a bit more to this than Mr Matthews is admitting.

Losing a secure tenancy over antisocial behaviour is quite a feat; most councils will work with the tenant for quite some time before resorting to eviction.

I hope he gets the help he needs from the mental health team.

Most definitely, before he hurts either himself or someone else. There is something seriously wrong with this person. I really feel sorry for the dogs, but I think the best thing for them would be to far far away from him.

As far as im aware the TSG teams don't carry or use water hoses as they would require a specialised van to provide the water(abit like the riot vans with water cannons on them), if water hoses where used as he says they
would have been operated by the local fire department and only if the risk of petrol induced ignition was very high and was a last resort.

He does come across as a person that needs help and i sincerely hope he gets it and that those on certain sites out there don't try to use him to forward their agenda.

There is generally a reason why someone has 4 rottweiler dogs - my opinion is purely based on someone I had the displeasure of meeting who had 8. If he had 4 smaller dogs,maybe he is just a dog lover? But 4 rottweilers with the reputation that they have????
Disclaimer - little dogs can be aggressive, big dogs can be totally the opposite (including rottweilers) but I suspect this chap had rottweilers for a reason.

You mean besides being stark staring bonkers?????? I'm not in the lesat disputing your interpretation, pretty much the same one I would put on it.

Also, daveBeeston's point is well taken, I can see NO viable reason they would have used water on him, unless of course he was a riot of one, and I just don't see that, so somehow or t'ohter, they must have gotten the idea that he had doused himself in petrol, now wonder where/how they got that idea. Just saying, that the crazy person is not the best judge of how crazy he is or what is really going on around him. I don't think Matthews is or is exactly giving an unbiased view of what happened.

One of the "minor" details he seems to skip over is that he a pot grower, and that is apparently what set this in motion, when they came to arrest him, and for which he was duly arrested according to the report, as well as "offences under the explosives act", which I can't help feeling is probably a lot more serious, on top of being real stupid in a close setting as the picture of his residence would indicate, which appears to be a multi-family residential unit. We have problems around here with druggy idiots trying to make pot oil and meth, and are an environmental as well as health hazard to anyone anywhere near them, and both of them are EXTREMELY dangerous to manufacture. I can't imagine his neighbors will be any too happy when they find out what he was up to and was endangering them and their living accommodations.

He may also have gotten to sampling a bit too much of his product, quality assurance and all that, acute paranoia and downright stupid are recorded and acknowledged side effects of too much on the wrong person.

He definitely does have BIG dogs, and if I were an official, I wouldn't want to be threatened with them.

I know a couple of people near me that have 2 or more rottweilers(one person on my street has 4 Newfoundlands and she is only 5ft tall) and they are family pets and would never be thought of as "guns" when being walked.

That comment from him shows how he is trying to get his dogs and himself viewed.

His post about LSD or the police killing him is worrying, not because its possible that would happen as it won't, but the bit about him topping himself is worrying, a person who is delusional and mentally unstable may well take the action/attempt to take the action they speak of as a way of validating their claim/claims.

I hope this is not the case here though.

Regarding the water/fire hoses, it got me thinking back to my previous job and how my team would have dealt with this situation. We would not have used water we would have set up one or two people with CO2 fire extinguishers, we would then have made entry and used the extinguishers on the threat to disorientate and neutralise them before taking them down. We wouldn't have used flash bangs/stun grenades either as they could cause ignition if flammable materials are nearby.

I have to go with daveBeeston on this, I've been around rotties who were absolute lambs, at least while their owners were around, I've also run in to some who were anything but. It would seem that people keep rotties, dobies, or pit bulls and are of the abusive and/or stupid mien tend to weaponize them, the problem is that I think there are more of the disturbed variety than the not. From everything said here, and in print, I think petrolboy falls in to the bigger category.

The only thing I can think of is maybe they didn't have enough of the right kind of extinguishers as petrol is not easy to put out and it can spread, water will dilute and stifle it from starting. I will admit that a face full of the CO2 variety will slow just about anyone down but doesn't stop them from doing something stupid by accident. other than that, who knows.

It's just clicked with me - the fire extinguisher is for the dogs. I remember seeing it on some UK cops program when they were doing a raid, one guy had a fire extinguisher to disorientate the dog in the target house if it started on anyone. I'll bet that's what happened here.

The extinguisher will have been on hand to put out any fire or anyone on fire, man or beast. Imagine having to bring that scene to an end. Petrol fumes can be highly explosive in confined spaces. I'd be very reluctant to put myself in the situation of getting into this man's property yet some brave cops did just that.

He clearly has known mental health issues. He has four powerful animals in a small flat. There has to have been some basis for the cops to fear that he had plans to set himself afire and the means to do so.

I agree that the CO2 type extinguisher would also serve to distract - if necessary - the occupants of the room but too much could be fatal to all present.

All in all a situation which the cops appear to have handled with patience and some skill.

I hope they are made aware of this man's Facebook postings as they are seemingly held responsible for suicides for an indeterminate time after release from custody.

Perhaps 4 days of petrol vapours building up in his flat, was the real reason for the water. As you noted, these vapours can be very flammable. we do not know what containers he had this stored in, or what allowances were made for ventilation. By flooding the place with water, you likely displace much of the vapour, and render the majority of the place at least temporarily non-flammable. A simple spark could have ignited a large ball of fire, so my guess was the soaking was done out of an abundance of caution, and to render the place safe. Any water hose hits to teh face and body Joson experienced, I am sure were incidental to the primary purpose of the soaking. Although, I would think the hose operators were not to upset buy any "Accidental" hosing of Jason directly, likely accidentally hitting him a few extra times, for good measure.

The thing about petrol is that it isn't so much the petrol but the fumes that are dangerous, in the right concentration they are very volatile. The two things that obviate that are water and cold, both of which will go a long ways towards defusing it. The water will cool air temp causing the fumes to turn back in to liquid making them much less dangerous. The fumes themselves are highly toxic and prolonged exposure to them doesn't do the body or the brain any kind of good. Whatever, having petrol in a confined space in a non-sealed container is just plain stupid, not to mention suicidal. One of the reasons they always suggest you keep your gas canisters full rather than partially if you are going to store it to feed like a lawn mower or something. If the stuff can fume it can go boom.
