But but but they are legion, at least in their feeble minds where they count 1 2 many. It is comforting, I guess, to know that they are delusional in all things.

Excuse me for wandering back in the thread, but is it just my opinion that "lawful rebellion" is an oxymoron? Again, English history is not my strongpoint, but I can't recall reading that any time that the British government ever enacted a statute that made it a legal for people to rebel prior to the actual rebellion.

Yes, its basically at the start of the beginning of modern England Magna Carta. I don't think Morden England became a kingdom until after 1066ish? Prior to that the north was mainly Dane law and further back I can't remember.

Maybe as I am Yorkshireman, I shall invoke my accident right to plunder anything south of the kingdom of Mercia? Be-gone Anglo Saxon overlords I don't recognise your illegitimate claim you conquered Jorvik in the 900s!!!

Yes, you can fairly certain that a good proportion of them haven't registered to vote in an attempt to avoid paying Council Tax.

It seems to me that a sense, or even a rudimentary knowledge of British history, say from 1066, would suffice to dispel the mythology that has gained traction about the 'Magna Carta'. The belief that a charter, created under duress between what passed as nobility and their king, & which is now over 800 years old, can be applied to current circumstances is laughable.

Even more so, as its oft perceived basis as the foundation of modern UK Parliamentary democracy, with its 2 Houses and constitutional monarchy (a more recent concept and one that King John would have had no cognisance of) is debatable.

Clearly, the concentration on European history of the last 2 centuries taught to my children's generation via GCSE syllabuses has a lot to answer for.

To these kooks its being a basis for our parliamentary democracy is utterly irrelevant as they don't believe parliament is sovereign which is rather the whole point of the thing. To them parliament has just been wasting its time for the best part of a millennium.

Naturally parliament passing laws which created a social security system for their benefit are of course legitimate even though the laws which permit taxation to pay for it aren't.

Last night, I watched the movie "1776", adapted from the Broadway play about the writing of the American Declaration of Independence.

One of the delegates complained about the revolution being illegal. Ben Franklin, leaned over and said something like "Our revolution is legal. The others are not". It all depends on your point of view.

To the powers-that-be, no rebellion is legal.

To the rebels, it is the only legal, moral course of action.
