Isn't there something in the Magnum Cartridge which says a freeman cannot be deprived of his property except by the law of the land?

Clearly the law of the land wasn't working properly as Tom was deprived of his property by the law of the land and therefore something, something, something, void abinito, Romanes eunt domus, ipso facto, QED.

I’ve got a latin quote Tom could use-

stultus non facile dividitur, et domum ejus.

Don’t ask me if it’s correct, I just used google to translate- “A fool and his house are easily parted”.

"the Chartist Movement"

Don't even! The original Chartist Movement featured huge rallies, millions of petition signers, several newspapers, and fielded many candidates for election. Protesters risked harsh prison sentences or exile to Australia. Supporters gave lots of money even though many were desperately poor.

There's no resemblence to Crawford's travelling pity party.

And I would normally agree, had he not made it a significant part of the story as it developed. But your disagreement is noted.

I think at this point the attendance issue has come down to whether or not enough people commit to attending to actually hold the meeting. I suspect Tom is an almost forgotten past event and his 'get out of the chair, turn off telly, and show up' support has dwindled to almost nothing.

I'm not trying to cast nasturtiums on our northern cousins by suggesting that they are more gullible than us softy southerners, but I'd be more than happy to gatecrash an event south of Watford with a week's notice.

Apart from the Pendragons' day trip, it does seem to be that Freemaning is exclusively a whippet owner and Essex girl endeavour.

I think there must be something in the water here in the north. I was born and raised in Kent but within a scant couple of decades living in t'north I find myself the owner of two whippets. There's no sign of a flat cap yet but it's probably just a matter of time :snicker:

I can't see my boy whippet (who incidentally looks almost identical to the one in the picture) being over enthusiastic about wearing a hat and the girl whippet would have a finger off at least. My whippets are working type rather than show... Shorter, stockier and with a tendency towards extreme violence :-D

Hi Tom
Thought you would be interested in this newspaper article.....

Burying their heads in the sand and failing to act could result in losing their homes...

Thing is he did act but not in the right way , so still ended up losing his house.

Yes, it was a sad folly. He only owed about £40k, and the value of Castle Crawford had gone up by a lot more. There were options to refinance, but TC leapt into a stubborn, stupid and spiteful denial of the debt and eventually lost everything.

But, to look on the bright side, he's very proud and happy that he did this. He has no regrets, it was worth every penny. And nothing but gratitude to people like Mark Colon and Mr Ebert, who showed him the way. So it's win-win for everyone, really.
