The great "Attornanus Generalis Privatus" seems to be of the delusion, along with a whole host of others, that the Judiciary Act of 1789 has never been altered/amended/updated, or that words and phrases do not change meaning over 230 odd years. He seems to have a wide variety and number of delusions. In this, as in so many other things. He. Is. Wrong.Pottapaug1938 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 24, 2019 5:44 pmThis is the Attornanus Generalis Privatus's delusion that, when Congress modified the Judiciary Act of 1789, by enacting 28 USC 1654, they were merely "codifying" the 1789 Act; and with intent to deceive, they "removed" language dealing with the "right" of self-representation. Legalistic hogwash, to be sure; but when has Anthony ever offered us anything different?ScottComstock wrote: ↑Sat Mar 23, 2019 8:55 pm

Alex, what is really fascinating is the subculture aspect of people like Williams. There are several sub-sets of functionality and IMHO Williams is one or two steps above what many of us would judge to be "street" or "homeless" people.
It's amazing to me that our mental health system decayed over the years to the point where we seem to accept that a percentage of our population can be loosed on the public and fend for itself despite the fact that they live in a kind of fantasy world and we as taxpayers wind up paying for their oft-repeated incarceration in an ill-equipped system that was designed for dangerous criminals.
I'm not saying Williams could have been cured of his delusions, but at some point, some years ago, "the system" should have intervened and derailed the perpetration of further absurdities at the criminal level.

If it is any consolation, the British system has gone exactly the same way.
The country used to be dotted with some pretty palatial lunatic asylums and despite abuses (classifying unmarried mothers as insane, for example) they gave a haven to pretty well anybody unable to function in society due to serious stupidity or downright battiness. As a young man I was able to see them inside and out (doing medical statistics), and the ones I saw were austere but not unpleasant, set in spacious grounds where the harmless could wander at large, escorted or unescorted according to ability.
They were just too expensive. Along came 'care in the community' where all but the most terminally bewildered were kicked out to more or less fend for themselves in a very underresourced system of care which fortunately coincided with the invention of the shopping trolly, so at least they had some way of carrying their 'homes' around.
It was very easy to see just how much the mental hospials cost, and almost impossible to add up all the diverse costs of not having them.
I do not think Mr. Williams is deluded or mad, he is simply an opportunistic criminal, well versed in a type of nutjobbery that has proved advantageous to him over the years, and his prison writings are something to do while waiting to die, because why the hell not?

In a depressingly large number of counties the county jail is the biggest supplier of mental health treatment. I think the Florida judge tried to by giving him the 20+ years probation and ordering him not to practice or imply he can practice law. I think Anthony Williams is a self absorb egomaniac who has to feel important at all costs. He thinks he is the smartest person in the room and will not listen to anyone that doesn't tell him what he wants to hear.Judge Roy Bean wrote: ↑Wed Mar 27, 2019 3:28 am It's amazing to me that our mental health system decayed over the years to the point where we seem to accept that a percentage of our population can be loosed on the public and fend for itself despite the fact that they live in a kind of fantasy world and we as taxpayers wind up paying for their oft-repeated incarceration in an ill-equipped system that was designed for dangerous criminals.

I feel for his standby counsel and the prosecutor on the case. They both have someone who is going to fight stupid stuff and then complain the system was rigged when he ignores any legitimate defense he has to try to tilt and windmills. I do not think anything other than a long prison sentence in a maximum security prison, like Florence ADMAX, will stop him from trying to continue his ways.

Agreed. This is a common theme with this class of offender. Michael Parsons was the very first name I thought of when I read that statement. But I feel like HATJ, Shrout, almost the entire ensemble could be accurately described this way.lurker9000 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 30, 2019 1:37 pm I think Anthony Williams is a self absorb egomaniac who has to feel important at all costs. Invariably, this works against them in the real world.

Re: Anthony Williams - Private Attorney General
There are many self absorbed ego-manica who become US President or other claim to fame, who are hailed as success stories. The fault with the usual suspects is that they start with and persist with strategies and beliefs that simply do not work or are not true.
The wise self absorbed ego-manic such as myself usually discards non-profitable lines of thought and action, the usual suspects persist in them till the bitter end.
The best time to spot failure is before it happens, but the usual suspects seem to have a total inabilty to do this even when their faces are ground in it.
It may be possible to devise diagnostic tests that could be given to children to detect this trait of obsessive persistance with failure. They could be then guided to more effective behaviour by self analysis and reinforcement.

Re: Anthony Williams - Private Attorney General
I wish that were possible. But I have yet to see any of these individuals show even the slightest ability to be self-critical or introspective. They never question their own position, and never even attempt to understand the position of anyone else. So I doubt self-analysis would even be a possibility.Siegfried Shrink wrote: ↑Sat Mar 30, 2019 8:33 pmThey could be then guided to more effective behaviour by self analysis and reinforcement.
Parsons is a great example of that. Leading up to his 2009 Tennessee trial he was ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation. His responses to that were, in order:
- Fire his attorney
- Do not show up for the evaluation appointment
- Do not show up for the Show Cause hearing
- Give the prisoner transport driver wrong directions to delay the appointment
- Fire his attorney (again)
- Obtain a second evaluation at his own expense that had the exact opposite conclusions as the first
- File a complaint against his attorney with the state licensing board
- Insist during trial and sentencing that the first evaluation never happened
- Argue that the first evaluation was inaccurate and rushed (although it never happened)

Yje full quote makes it plain that I was referring to children who may be caught before becoming full blown loonies. It may be possible to devise diagnostic tests that could be given to children to detect this trait of obsessive persistance with failure. I know that the fully developed cases are almost immune to any approach.

You're right, I see now that I took that second sentence and ran with it. My own opinion is that Williams is not crazy, he's just a con-man who's gotten stuck in his own con and now, perhaps having inhaled his own lies, refuses to give it up.

I agree. Williams is crazy but not of the legal variety, he is a conman, and he has adopted a persona and a scam to fit his narrative. He is VERY invested in his fantasy, but not any more than most if not all of the sovcits we come across. He's been playing the system for a long time(successfully????), and I don't see him giving it up in this life time. He has his narrative and he's sticking to it, and at this point he doesn't really have much option. But crazy, incompetent, IMHO, not in the least. He's just running an extension of his original con. His play is, and has always been, delay, delay, delay.

Thanks.

"Expert Lawyah (not Lawyer)"? REALLY? Williams's small but fevered brain seems to be working overtime devising new titles for himself.
I've referred to myself as a "lawyah"; but then again, it's only when I'm speaking with my Central Massachusetts accent.
