The ones that used to be all over from the Valley down to Orange County and beyond.

Supposedly there are two left somewhere in central LA but the recipe isn't the same.

I was quoting Warren Zevon:

Well, I pawned my Smith Corona
And I went to meet my man
He hangs out down on Alvarado Street
By the Pioneer Chicken stand

I haven't thought about Pioneer in 30+ years - going back to my college days.

It seems to me the worst part of growing older is not even remembering what you don't remember any more until someone brings up a bit of nostalgia.

Thank you for bringing back a long lost memory.

I and SO used to live near where there was a Pioneer next to an A&W. We'd get a 12 piece chicken order and a gallon of draft rootbeer and make a weekend of it.

Thing is, the basic recipe for Pioneer wasn't much different from other places. But somehow the method they used made the chicken come out lighter and more flavorful.
