Well, now you're bums. Sorry, but that's what CEOs get for "covering for him".

And now Trump is supposedly "ordering" GM to produce ventilators?

He doesn't like the price, so he's going to try to treat us like the contractors he stiffs in his casinos.
We'd probably do the work nearly free or at cost if asked, we're gonna be asking for a few favors ourselves pretty soon. But the ventilator companies this is a life or death thing, if they get stiffed they'll go bankrupt. For us its a rounding error.

Looks like you're on the job.
Ford plans to make as many as 50,000 simple ventilators for coronavirus patients within 100 days and plans to continue producing 30,000 per month after that, the company announced Monday.
The automaker said it will make the ventilators at its Rawsonville Components Plant in Ypsilanti, Michigan. The factory will be staffed by 500 United Auto Workers union members who have volunteered to work on the project, Ford said.

The ventilator is currently being made by Florida-based Airon Corp. and has been licensed by GE Healthcare. Ford (F) has been working with GE Healthcare to help it increase its ventilator output.
The Airon Model A-E ventilator that Ford will produce operates on air pressure alone and requires no electricity. Airon currently makes three of the ventilators per day at its factory in Melbourne, Florida. Ford's plant will produce the ventilators around the clock with three shifts of workers, Ford said, and it will make 7,200 of the devices per week.
Although Trump will probably personally take credit for making all of them himself in his spare time.

I have my youngest daughter that still lives with me and my partner of 26 years. That both are frontline nurses in A& E. they work different shifts so I am the taxi. Unfortunately my daughter spent 5 hours caring for a pensioner who was brought in after a fall on Sunday (not suspected so no gloves or mask). When his breathing started to get worse they took him for an MRI of his chest only to discover he had the virus. So I think it is only a matter of time before we all get it in my house. To be honest I knew it would only be a matter of time we just have to hope if we all have it, it will be mild!

My wife manages the local hospital ER (nurse). They are short on N95 respirators. She asked if they would buy half face respirators (like the fire dept she works with uses) with N95 filters. They said no, we have to do things system wide. So we bought them for her ER personnel. 70 each with lots of replacement filters from Mine Safety Associates. I feel pretty good about that.

you should feel good about that. everyone who did something for others deserves has earned a pat on the back.

i know as a rule of thumb im kind of an asshole. however right when this started, both the kung flu and the real problem that is the economy i knew this was going to require some extreme measures to keep people healthy, happy and safe. so i spent the last few days before the bar got shut down spreading real info from health canada and the who. (not the band smartass)

when they closed the bar i purchased the biggest order of off sales in the history of the bar. took four of us a few minutes and several trips to carry it upstairs to my room. i bought enough booze to keep everyone in the hotel for i believe this is the 14th day. i refused to take a dollar from anyone up here. just said if they want to they can pay me after this blows over. or its free. a few are alcoholics and now isn't the time for severe withdrawal.

i also gave out a ton of money to help the people get through the shitty times. people got bills and there is no work. went to the pot store. there was a girl in the store crying.i bought her a bag of pot and explained the virus, what you can do, and why not to worry so much. told her the sites to go to for actual facts. she left smiling. and then i got a bag for each older person in the hotel and the one lady who has a terminal disease. then they dont share joints right now.

went to 7-11 and of coarse my van broke at the pump. starter went. pushed van to corner of parking lot. went in and talked to the manager. told them i have no mechanic and cant get parts right now so they said it was fine to leave it. so i told the manager i will take all my stuff out of the van and if they are ok with it when the homeless come into the store and hang out for hours tell them to go sleep in my van. its safe and warmer than standing outside. i thought it would be a hard no, but they said yes!

i also bought some 2 way radios and have them in certain houses. one being a motorcycle club hangout. but we all agreed folks need jobs and stores to open when this is over. so no we wont call the police when we catch someone breaking in but i assure you the criminals will know not in our town at this time. that will be made extremely clear.

so i do hope this inspires others to go do a good deed or two. we are all friends until this passes. and i hope you all stay safe, keep your family and friends safe, and i really hope you go show an act of kindness of some kind. give a hobo a dollar. help an old lady. shovel a walk. just do something. and enjoy your good feeling.

you dont have to be a great man at times like this. but you do have to be a man.
peace,

Just bought $100 gift cards at several local restaurants. Will cash them in in a year or so.

Also, since I don't NEED it, my federal bailout money is going to people who do need it.

I've signed up as a general volunteer for the local democratic club. So far, i haven't been called. Sadly, before this started, i had joined the tabling committee and the club had purchased some extra supplies so we could have two crews out at once, trying to make sure everyone is registered to vote, even republicans. But that's all off now. I've also signed up to pick up and deliver for the local food bank. They were supposed to call me today about a collection tomorrow but didn't. I also made a donation.

Oh and i explained to a friend who has little cooking experience how to make beans.

I'd imagine they'll come up with some justification for this. Perhaps they'll say it's something to do with that ”promissory note” rubbish they trot out every now and again.

MIT is working on the same thing - a simple, relatively quickly- and easily-made ventilator that will assist a patient's breathing without killing him. The key is the rubber duck.

Now, let's see - Menard or MIT?
I prefer the MIT approach. Possibly biased towards them -- one of my alma maters.
Pfft, MIT? "The Vocational School down the road" :)

Image
Having lived in the area for most of my life, I can attest that MIT shares a similar love of Harvard:

"How many Harvard students does it take to screw in a light bulb? One to hold the bulb, and let the world revolve around them."

Then, there are others who love both, equally:

A college student goes to the supermarket for groceries. By the end of his trip he's gotten fifteen items.

He goes up to the lane labeled "Express Checkout: 10 Items Or Less" and starts putting his purchases on the belt.

The cashier says, "Why, you must go to college at Harvard or MIT!"

"Why, yes I am a college student, but how could you know I went to Harvard or MIT?"

"Because Harvard students can't count, and MIT students can't read."

I'm starting to suffer chicken tikka masala withdraw symptoms. The long established connection between going to the pub and having a CTM (with Peshwari naan) has been so long established that now there are no pub sessions my blood/curry levels aren't properly balanced.
