Ironically, depending on how old the libbies are the least they are worth. That's inflation-proofness for you...

Stock sale?

The auction includes "90 Shares of common stock in Southwest Airlines Co." Is that normal? Why wouldn't the gov't sell it on a stock exchange, ensuring it gets fair value, rather than at an auction, where the highest bidder will almost certainly undercut the market price?

That's the beauty of the auction, get rid of it with the least cost and convert it to USD... not if they were smart they would pass off those Libbies to unsupecting merchants and slot machines.

How can you be sure? The taxpayer is not named in the auction announcement.

Rush job as I was leaving work. I was commenting that the libbies can not be accurately valued without knowing how old they are.
