Hmmm, well this looks good for Reno. I can only imagine that he has promise to roll over on Ed and Elaine. This would be the smartest move he's made thus far. He could be out of jail fairly soon then.

I don't think Reno has agreed to do anything. The government could be waiting to combine his case with a new batch of supporters, or they could be waiting to see what kind of sentence he gets on the two guilty counts, or they simply could be tired and willing to walk away.

Without prejudice gives the govt considerably leverage against him: he can either behave or face a new indictment.

Hmmm...

I wonder if the .gov did a cost-benefit analysis on the issue of a re-trial. Perhaps they think Reno will go away for long enough that they do not need a conviction on the other counts. Then again, I have no idea what is going on, so my opinion of little consequence. :?

When is sentencing scheduled for the various defendants?

Plainfield
Second trial unlikely for Browns ally
By Margot Sanger-Katz

June 17, 2008

Prosecutors in the case of a man accused of bringing weapons to the Plainfield home of tax protesters Ed and Elaine Brown have moved to dismiss the outstanding counts against him, effectively asking the judge to cancel his trial, scheduled for next week.

Cirino Gonzalez of Alice, Texas, was convicted in April of conspiring to prevent U.S. Marshals from arresting the Browns following their conviction for tax-related felonies. The Browns were able to hold off federal authorities for nearly nine months last year while they holed up with guns, bombs and supporters in their self-sufficient home, issuing threats.

The jury found Gonzalez guilty of aiding and abetting the couple and conspiring to prolong the standoff. But they were unable to reach verdicts on a second, similar conspiracy count and a charge that Gonzalez had used weapons as part of the conspiracy.

A second trial was scheduled to begin with jury selection later this week. But the motion, filed by Assistant U.S. Attorney Arnold Huftalen, asks the judge to dismiss the charges "without prejudice," meaning the government could bring the same charges again at a later date. According to the motion, Gonzalez's lawyer agrees the charges should be dismissed.

"The defendant and the government agree that it is in their respective best interests that the remaining two counts be dismissed, without prejudice, and that the defendant be sentenced on the two counts upon which he has been convicted," the motion reads.

Lawyers working on the case have said they will not comment until a verdict is reached.
During the long stay at their fortified concrete home, the Browns entertained a rotating cast of supporters, who brought them food, weapons and communication with the outside world. Many of those supporters, Gonzalez among them, shared their view that there was no legal basis for the federal income tax. During the prolonged standoff, they hosted concerts, participated in a daily internet radio show and made frequent public threats to harm law enforcement figures should they try to arrest the couple. They were apprehended in October by a team of undercover marshals posing as supporters. According to the marshals, the arrest was made without incident.

After their arrest, agents searched the house and found dozens of improvised explosive devices on the property, more than 20 rifles and tens of thousands of rounds of ammunition. A videotaped tour of the house played in court showed weapons and ammunition positioned near windows. Bombs and bomb-making materials were stored beside matches and fuses. Jars of explosive material were nailed to trees with orange targets facing toward windows.

Gonzalez, a former military contractor and naval weapons expert, lived with the Browns for several months last year and described himself at the time as their security expert. He ran errands on their behalf and wrote frequent updates about their story on various blogs and MySpace pages. Evidence offered during his first trial showed that he bought a .50-caliber sniper rifle while living in New Hampshire and brought two other guns with him from Texas. A .50-caliber rifle can shoot at long distances with very high accuracy.

In a video, shown three times to the jury, Gonzalez explained that government agents should be concerned about the military training held by many Browns supporters.

"We have weapons, and we're going to defend ourselves. We know what's going on," he says on the video, shot from the Browns' fourth-floor observation deck, described by one federal prosecutor as a "turret." "This is a serious situation. This is basically a revolution."

According to statements made by relatives and Gonzalez's testimony during the trial, he left the house last June after arguing with Ed Brown about security measures at the house. Much of his defense centered on showing that there were no bombs or bomb-making materials when he was living at the house.

Gonzalez also testified that he had not visited the Browns to help them. He told jurors that he had driven from Texas to New Hampshire in order to capitalize on the attention the Browns were receiving. He said he hoped he would be able to meet other anti-government activists in Plainfield and find a wider platform for his own political causes, which included ending the war in Iraq and stopping the use of depleted uranium in government weapons.

"Their cause wasn't exactly my cause," he testified.

Gonzalez was tried with two other Brown supporters. Both were found guilty of aiding and arming the tax-protesting couple. Jason Gerhard of Brookhaven, N.Y., and Daniel Riley of Cohoes, N.Y., were convicted of conspiracy, aiding and abetting, and bringing firearms to the couple. Riley was also convicted of handling destructive devices as part of the conspiracy; Gerhard faced a similar charge but was found not guilty. A fourth co-conspirator, Robert Wolffe of Randolph, Vt., pleaded guilty to conspiracy and accessory charges and testified during the trial. The men are scheduled for sentencing in August.

Last week, it appeared Gonzalez would plead guilty to at least one of the charges. A hearing was scheduled on his court docket for a change of plea, and Gonzalez's girlfriend, Donna Van Meter, said Gonzalez had agreed to plead guilty to the conspiracy charge if prosecutors dismissed the weapons charge, which carries a five-year mandatory minimum sentence. Gonzalez did not plead guilty at the hearing.

According to a MySpace post made by Gonzalez's father, Jose Gonzalez, his son changed his mind because the written plea agreement differed from the verbal agreement he had discussed with prosecutors before the hearing.

The Browns are serving 63-month prison sentences for their original tax crimes but have not been charged in connection with the standoff. U.S. Marshal Stephen Monier, who led the investigation, has suggested the Browns will face charges sometime in the future.

There is no indication Gonzalez has agreed to cooperate in any future prosecution. Although he appears to have little love for the Browns - in court, he said that Ed Brown was a "jerk" - Van Meter said he would not promise to testify as part of his aborted plea agreement.

'Son of Israel' claims Brown home for God
Unidentified man on property now in jail

Ed and Elaine Brown may be in federal prison, but their Plainfield home remains an attraction for those with views outside the mainstream.

A bearded man dressed in white and identifying himself as "Son of Man" and "Son of Israel" was arrested at the Browns' home Sunday night after he broke into the home to claim it for his religion, the House of Israel, according to court documents.

The man, who resembles descriptions of a mysterious spiritual adviser who visited the Browns last year during their eight-month standoff with authorities, was arraigned yesterday in Claremont District Court, where he refused to enter pleas, talk to his court-appointed attorney or recognize the judge's authority. Instead, he insisted on the absolute power of God's word before being led back to the Sullivan County House of Corrections, where he will stay until a psychiatrist evaluates him. A hearing was scheduled for August.

Court documents give the following account:

An ADT alarm installed on the Browns' home by the U.S. Marshal's Service activated about 10:30 p.m. Sunday. Federal authorities have controlled the property since October, when agents arrested the Browns on charges of failing to pay federal income taxes.

Plainfield Police Chief Gordon Gillens arrived on the scene a few minutes after the alarm activated and found a "U.S. No Trespassing" sign at the entrance to the property replaced by a hand-painted sign reading "the house of prayer."

Gillens saw the man, identified as Israel Sonneosman in court documents, on the front porch, where an air mattress had been made up for a bed.

Sonneosman insisted he could not be arrested, because the house was the Lord's property and he was the appointed caretaker.

Gillens arrested him on misdemeanor charges of criminal mischief, trespass and attempted theft.

The man had unlocked a door to the Browns' main house and pried off a lock on an outbuilding on the Brown compound.

Sonneosman was found with two March airline tickets from Aloha Airlines from Honolulu to California and on to a destination that was not legible. The plane tickets read "SonneIsrael" and "Sonneosman Israel."

The man also was found with receipts from the West Lebanon Wal-Mart for a bicycle and vegetable seeds, according to court documents. He refused to be fingerprinted or to give his hometown, age or any other information.

While he was in jail, the Plainfield police received a phone call from someone who identified himself as "The Lord's Body" and a priest of the House of Israel. The caller said the man had called him from prison. The caller confirmed for police that the Brown home was the property of the Lord but did not give his name or location, according to court documents.

Coffee cups down.

Interviewed by Kat Kanning

Reno Gonzalez is one of the four supporters of tax truthers Ed and Elaine Brown. The Browns had the audacity to ask the Federal government to show them the law require normal Americans to pay taxes on their wages. Ed and Elaine Brown walked out on their tax trial and returned to their Plainfield, NH home. Federal Marshals posing as friends eventually arrested them, tasering 68 year old dentist Elaine Brown after she had already been subdued. Gonzalez, along with Danny Riley, Jason Gerhard and Robert Wolffe were put on trial in Concord for helping the Browns. The government, in an astounding show of protecting itself, found the Brown supporters guilty. The jury deadlocked on two of the charges against Gonzalez.

This interview had to be conducted by mail. I had set up an interview with Mr. Gonzalez at the Merrimack County Jail, but at the last minute I received a phone call and was told the Feds would not allow any federal prisoners to talk to the media. This seemed to be news to the Merrimack County Jail, which routinely houses Federal prisoners – or else they would have known this before allowing the interview to be set up in the first place.

(NH Free Press) What do you think are the most serious problems faced by Americans today?

(Reno) First two are easy. People in general, not only Americans, fail to realize of acknowledge the personal responsibility to our selves and for our loved ones. Because of this a second failure takes place, failure to determine our own level of involvement.

This happens because of the lack of a simple skill: problem solving.

Effective problem solving requires a simple process of only five steps: 1st being “Notice.” 2nd being Recognition. 3rd being Decision. 4th Assignment. 5th being most important, Implementation.

“Notice” is needed to become “awake” that perhaps a problem exists in the first place.

“Recognition” is when it has been determined that there is a serious problem.

“Decision” takes place once it is recognized that said problem requires action.

“Assignment” is the tricky stage. This step is where responsibility is either reported to another or where responsibility is taken on by the observer themselves.

“Implementation” is by far the most crucial stage. Following through with action to fulfill responsibility. Or, following through in accountability if responsibility was assigned/reported out.

Without this final step, no issues not situation will ever be resolved. Ever!

If at any step, a “question”, or an “uncertainty” were to arise, the process must be restarted. But in our era, an attempt is good enough. Plus, we are socially pressed to allow only those “designated” to respond. Intellectuals will argue that this is best for everyone in the end.

Another serious problem faced by pseudo-Americans is the lack of courage. Bravery to attempt effective problem solving is commendable, but those with courage to complete it are rare and sorely needed.

What do you think really happened on 9/11. How has 9/11 effected the US since?

I prefer t not to speculate on what “really happened” on September 11th. I prefer to point out the facts: Pentagon, for example, no 757 plane ever found, not even the two jet-turbine engines. The excuse given for the missing 260,000+ pounds of airplane? Vaporized. By the way, jet engines have TITANIUM turbines. Stop kidding yourself, it was a “cruise style” type of missile.

As for the twin towers, not even poorly constructed buildings in a major earthquake – shaken violently all at once all over – have ever perfectly, PERFECTLY DE-CONSTRUCTED ITSELF, all the while falling from TOP to bottom at nearly a perfectly “free fall” speed. Let's not forget that World Trade Center building #7 also perfectly imploded that day, but it was not even hit by a plane. Oh yeah, it was the city government's blast/emergency survival shelter, too (recently refitted/strengthened).

Last I read, 144,000 official complaints by professional engineer types have stated 9/11 Commission's excuses for the twin tower's is a lie/impossible and a cover-up.

How has this event effected the US? Exactly as it was supposed to. What we were brought up to believe to be the United States of America, has only lived on in our hearts and minds. This country is, (was, I mean) that piece of paper known as the “US Constitution”. Soon after the 9/11 attacks, our constitution flat-lined. It is not coming back.

The State (US in our case here) is held up by three pillars: Strategy (Warfare), Constitution (Law/Treaties) and History (records past war's tactics; two reasons for prior and future warfare; states claim “We Are Right” to continue on).

Since 9/11, our constitution has been officially cast aside (the judicial system side-stepped our constitution over a century ago), “Naked Aggression”/”Open Hostility” against other “States” and cultures is or new strategy to make us safe(?); and the mainstream media's actions of distorting truth, spinning story lines cause us to lose touch with actual history. It is a simple list but plainly shows how our Country was undermined and lost.

What are your views on the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq?

Afghanistan's hidden history (secret to Americans) is that they were the one's to break the mighty “Red Army” of the USSR (Soviet Union) thereby ending the “Cold War”. Afghani people have proven to be determined & courageous in attempting to secure their home.

As for Iraq, it was an illegal war from the very beginning, fought with illegal weapons of mass destruction. Of course I mean the DEPLETED URANIUM (D.U.) munitions used by the British and American forces against Iraq's people. Radioactive and poisonous material does not & cannot tell the difference between enemy, friend or even children. With ammo rounds as small as 7.62 (308 rifle) on up to .50 caliber (BMG) in “small arms” & used in everything else from tank rounds to missile warheads, there is no room to believe that this is one of the biggest (if not the) dirty little secrets of the US. D.U. has even cause birth defects in our returning soldier's children. D.U. Material continues to kill and damages the environment for 4.5 billion years.

How do you reconcile your views on self-defense and war, or is there even a contradiction?

Is there a contradiction? I suppose you must answer if the war is a “just” war. Just wars to me are against slavery and genocide type conflicts. Anything preemptive is flat out Mr. Cow Doo Doo.

Self-defense issues, I support the right to protect one's self and loved ones 100%, tooth and nail, to the death if it need be.

How did you meet Cindy Sheehan?

seen her around a couple places. I have a few friends that know her fairly well.

I never introduced myself to her (not that I can remember), but she may remember her and I's first contact moment. It was Easter weekend in 2007.

I was recording a couple who was giving a performance in a small hall. I was recording with my brand new camera (free hand). Cindy was standing behind me while I sat; when someone hit her with a snowball! Yes, it snowed in Texas (town close to Crawford, TX). Well, after it hit her, it bounced off to then hit me. I continued recording, not wanting to ruin the clip.

But then Cindy started to brush me off; take the snow off my shoulders and out of my hair. But she did it so roughly so she was causing me to move my camera , so I raised my hand over my shoulder and motioned for her to leave me alone. I do not think she knew I was recording at the time. Soon after, I sorta felt bad about it.

You were about to accompany Cindy Sheehan on a trip to Iraq when you were arrested. What was the purpose of the trip? What did you hope to accomplish there?

Cindy dropped Iraq and left for Jordan & Syria way before my arrest. I was about a week out before our “new team” would begin travel when I was arrested.

What did I hope to accomplish? Save lives, end the occupation, start low-level cooperation, peace movement relations between Iraqis and Americans; too many other details to list here...But the major ones I was to accomplish was proving that there are Americans that know and care about what is going on over there. Expose corrupt oil dealings.

How has the world been made a lesser place since your arrest? What plans did you have that the government has prevented you from accomplishing?

Since my arrest, I believe the movement has lost only those who were just talk. Those walking the walk, only walk in tighter groups. Plus, it made everything “real” for certain people. Less mistakes are being made, the patriots only dug in deeper.

The only plans prevented were the “Peace House Project” and the “one on one” projects with its use. With my arrest, “Plan B” became active. I have been fairly overt about it. Yes, there was a “Plan B” way before my arrest.

The Concord Monitor printed: "The defendant resisted attempts by the Marshal to arrest him at a residence where numerous firearms, including assault weapons, were present," the ruling said. "During the arrest, defendant attempted to gain access to those weapons."
Is this the way it really happened? Often their definition of 'resisting arrest' is quite ludicrous.

The long and short of it is this, I met the US Marshals (unknown to me at first) at my bedroom door wearing only a T-shirt and carrying my pistol (loaded and cocked) for self-defense. Once I established there were not going to open fire on me, I told them was letting them in, rendered my pistol inoperative and tossed it away, placing myself against the wall. They entered and threw me down. Seven marshals dog-piled on me and began to beat me until Donna walked in.

How much time is it possible you'd be sentenced to on the two charges you were convicted on by the sham court? How about if you were convicted on the other two at the retrial?

For the convicted ones, 20 years. These last un-non-convicted charges at retrial, one is possible life. Life means till I die, in case anyone is confused.

I read that Robert Wolffe testified against the rest of you as part of a plea bargain. It's tough to imagine the pressure they put on him (and I assume the rest of you guys) to do this. It's tough to imagine actually giving in to the pressure, too. How do you feel about what he did?

The government never even proposed a deal with me, as they did with Wolffe, Riley and Gerhart. It was only after the trial they asked that I plead guilty to everything! This was only after the following morning of my alleged outburst of jury nullification to the court. Bob's testimony shows he still believes in his cause and he admitted that the marshals threatened his wife too in order to force him to testify against us. In the end, it was so easy to tell Bob was making stuff up for the Feds. I am not mad at him.

My husband and I believe that it's just plain wrong to pay federal income taxes, especially when the money is used to fund war and torture. Ed Brown objected because of legal arguments, and if shown the law, has said he would pay the tax. What were your views on the federal income tax?

It is slavery!

How have you been treated in prison? How about when in the custody of the Federal Marshals? Our experience has been the Marshals are real brutes.

These days even a few Marshals disapprove of what's happening to me. Most jails and Cos (correctional officers) have treated me decently these days. Most do not agree with the way the government is treating me. Many express support. The worst jail was back home in Alice, TX. They did not even know if I was arrested or not. Denied me medical.

What parts of the government's testimony during the trial were outright fabrications? (Perhaps it would be shorter to talk about what parts weren't lies?)

We proved the government tampered with video evidence (cutting the resolution in half where Marshals open fire on Riley's back). They claimed that a video sound bite of “someone who claimed to be me” was me. This was used as “my” co-conspiracy statement. Riley says he recognized the voice as being a friend of “ours”. The judge ignored the objection of our lawyers about it not being me, because a Marshal said he was sure it was me. (He's wrong.)

He ordered Riley's lawyer to quit, as the lawyer showed over and over how the government tampered and degraded the important video shooting and ordering the government to pull it off the screen. Reports from JJ and Margot Katz (for the Concord Monitor) never once mention this major finding of corruption!

Have you observed government officials breaking their own laws?

The Federal Courthouse is illegal; ask the Secretary of State for their RSA 123:1 filing. Not there! Ask the State of NH about Riley's state case against the Fed's jurisdiction which the state handed to the Feds because it would “effect them”.

An error at step one or two will certainly result in errors at steps three, four and five.

Oh yeah, it was the city government's blast/emergency survival shelter, too (recently refitted/strengthened).

Last I read, 144,000 official complaints by professional engineer types have stated 9/11 Commission's excuses for the twin tower's is a lie/impossible and a cover-up.

So glad you didn't speculate.....

....

Uh, except there was like a American made movie about that this past year.

Yeah, so as long you think you're justified, you can kill anyone you want. Wow, you're a shining example of what it means to be an advocate for peace.

Ok that's just a weird story. And, yes, I'm sure Cindy remembers that exact moment as being as special to her as it was to you.

Because the Marshalls knew that they couldn't get away with beating you once your live in girlfriend casually, just walked in. Who knows how long they would have beaten you if she hadn't walked in. I know that Marshals love a good beating on peaceful arrestees, apparently it happens a lot to you "innocent tax protestor types".

Ah, thanks. Glad to have that cleared up.

Well, how dare they not report that HUGE turn in the case! I'm sure the jury saw right through that though, since it was sooo clear. Oh wait, they found everyone guilty (of at least something).

There was nothing to report. No evidence whatsoever was introduced that showed the tapes had been tampered with.

You got it all wrong. The "reporter" quite clearly pointed out that:
The government, in an astounding show of protecting itself, found the Brown supporters guilty
.

Yeah, I know, I was guilty of the same thing - thinking that it was the jury that found them guilty. But it was really the government! The Illimunati just grabbed some of webhick's recovering interns, sent them off to New Hampshire, got them on the jury panel and told them to ignore everything and find Reno guilty.

This was the bit that had Donna posting fiction on MySpace about a witness being chastised for committing perjury on the stand. No such chastisement ever happened.

Back in June of last year, Reno wrote a self-incrimination blog on his Myspace page. Supporter Casey Lee Cobb recorded the blog into an audioblog using his own voice. The words were Reno's, the voice was Casey's.

The Marshal who introduced the audio file into evidence thought the voice (and not just the words) belonged to Reno. Reno admitted on the stand that the words were his.

A wrong opinion (the Marshal thought is was Reno's voice) is not perjury, and Reno had a chance to point out the error when he was on the stand.

And the audio file is here:
http://showedthelaw.blogspot.com/2007_0 ... chive.html

Considering the voice on the tape says, "For those who do not know me, I am Cirino Gonzalez, aka "Reno" so the Marshal's mistake is understandable.

The blog entry that Reno admitted writing is here:

If not me, then who? If not now, then when?
Current mood: productive

Hello everyone...
For those that do not know me, I am Cirino Gonzalez; aka Reno.
I am the manager for this sits e that was created by Anthony. I blog on here being that I stay with Ed and Elaine. I am volunteer security for them and their friends here...
Many people are concerned that this will turn out to be another Rudy Ridge or Waco... Well the truth be known, I fear it too. NOT this time! I am here for this one! The people of this country will not be fooled or tricked by the main stream media in believing that our "supposed" all powerful, federal government can do no wrong.
Take note "feds;" that the people know the truth this time around. The story of these people has reached out to the world... that's right the world! Canada, England, China, Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, and many more others...
Even our troops in Iraq are learning about it. Last year while I was in Iraq the troops were passing around the dvd of Arron Russo's America: freedom to fascism. The people are waking up...
The dots are starting to connect. People are speaking out to their friends... Little pockets of dissent are forming. Both within the military and amongst the civilians.
We are learning the about the lies you cannot keep covered without closing your eyes and saying the pledge to the flag as loud as you can... blindly as you can! "...to the REPUBLIC! for which it stands!..." not Democracy... so why is "our" country spreading democracy?
How has a country that boast of its freedom accept the practice of free speech zones? Where have you drawn your line in the ground and said not this time? ONLY to be pushed back again and again and again.
How can a one of our greatest cities sleep at night knowing that the whole world understands the lie that has been held up before us and we are told to forget the real world, focus on our explanation that makes no sense in the world of science. 911 was an inside job!
Dr. Ron Paul speaks the truth and never gets air time; While the "Butcher of New York Giuliani" gets praise for harping on terror threats that may come... backed up with no real evidence.
Speaking of no evidence; a simple question was asked a long time ago, "are the federal income taxes a law?" followed by a simple request, "show me the law!" Yet for all the spin and words coming out of our medias dirty mouths was there ever an answer uttered... "there is no law to be found and displayed"
Simple as that. Yet the U.S. Marshals will continue to carry out their orders to bring down Ed and Elaine; to shut them up! and shut them up good!
How could any self respecting cop and even security guard wear their uniform today knowing that there was never a law given as proof to the crime that Ed and Elaine Brown case was charged with...
I know what I would be saying, "this is not right, this cannot be allowed to happen!" This sorry excuse for a trial was unjust and flies in my face of INTEGRETY!
This federal government that so many sheeple pay protection money to out of fear was never meant to become this crooked and corrupted.
WE the people ARE the government! Our voice is our power! Our will be done so long as no one else gets hurt.
Personal responsibility is "the way forward," not an all power mad police force. They must be held to the lawful laws of the land just the same as we are! AND jury nullification must be taught and restored to make our courts fair again for the common man and woman.
...if this does not shake you awake, then perhaps your pocket book will perk up with this info... The Federal Reserve is no more government owned than Federal Express!
-IT IS A PRIVATE CORPORATION!-
The Federal Reserve gets paid to make money out of thin air! Hold it for one second! Think about it. The government ie. we the people are paying the federal reserve to make money for us out of thin air.
Then when we borrow this money, we the people via our federal government "deciders" are charged interest on the money borrowed for a war and other killings we never asked for.
Now some of you maybe thinking that is right, you pay someone to make something for you... you pay interest on money you borrowed.
Get this, right NOW as it was before, our constitution provides for us to make our own money and interest free to boot.... DOES THAT MAKE ANY SENSE TO ANYONE OUT THERE? To give this power and money making ability to a private bank with the power to control us?
The new world order is coming and many of us see it everyday.
A few refuse to believe it... but in the end they will most likely jump on the wagon!
Last night a new friend of mine said something to me I just had to quote her:
now i am going to have to go V for Vendetta style on you..."If you think the way I think, and you feel the way I feel..." then you should know exactly what I am thinking ;-)
Heather

We know what that means... and you know what that means...
I used to lay in bed at night and ask myself, "if not me? then who? if not now? then when?"
I have had enough of the killing. If you haven't then guess what... you should be happy soon. No more children are going to died on my watch. The all powerful federal government MUST be checked with every patriot's body. This "police state" MUST be stopped. Personal responsibility is YOURS.
