Rep. Phil Hart, R-Athol.
COEUR D'ALENE -- State Representative Phil Hart says he has reached an agreement with the IRS over back taxes and financial information.
Hart, a Republican from Athol, refused to pay income taxes from seven years while he sued the IRS challenging the federal income tax system.
He resumed paying taxes in 2003 after the U.S. Supreme Court refused to consider his appeal.
But he still owes an estimated $90,000.
Under the agreement, Hart must divulge the number of self-published books he has sold detailing his interpretation of federal tax law.
The IRS says it needs the information to determine exact amount of income tax he still owes.
