Just a fair warning, one of the "legal name fraud" CULT has stated that they are working on a Wikipedia page for the search term "legal name fraud". One doesn't exist yet, and even if it does happen, I suspect it will be pulled shortly thereafter.

If there is anyone here with an already established "RationalWiki" account, I would suggest "legal name fraud" as a new entry, tied together with "freeman on the land" and "strawman".

I'm a Wikipedia editor. I'm a tad busy right now but tomorrow I'll start a talk page on it and a see if I can get attention to this pseudo mumbojumbo ID as such.

In Wikipedia-speak, "Draft" doesn't necessarily mean "this is about to be posted as a full-fledged page." In fact, frequently it means exactly the opposite. It means "This was posted as a full-fledged page, but it sucks. We're willing to give you a chance to fix it so that it doesn't suck; so rather than deleting it completely, we're moving it to the Draft space where no one finds it who's not specifically looking for drafts. If you try to post it again without fixing it, we'll just move it back to Draft again or delete it." That's exactly what happened to this page; it was created on April 25, had a brief flurry of edits on the 25th and 26th, then was rejected on the 29th for being an essay rather than an encyclopedia page.

There's been essentially no activity since late April. So it would appear that whoever came up with the idea of promoting this nonsense through Wikipedia has given up on that angle of attack.

Yeah its under review and based on what I read it would never make it into Wikipedia. Basically just nonsense.

I've added it too my watchlist which will let me know if anything happens to it other than dying a lonely death.

I ordered a Taxi yesterday to take me into Liverpool. On the way in, I realised I didn't have enough cash so asked the driver to take me to an ATM. He said "if it's to pay me, I have a card paypal reader"

So, I said, ok thats great

We made idle chit chat, and he was interested that I worked in finance and he came out with the lines "have you heard of legal name fraud you must have seen the posters"

Go on I said .... and he came out with all the usual drivel, not legal, woman in canada, birth certificate, corporation blah blah blah

So knowing I had 5 mins left with him, I said "so why's it illegal"

T: "well you don't get to choose it"

Me: "well I didn't get to choose my skin colour"

T: "Well that's different"

T "well this is about your name, someone else gave it you, so it's not yours"

Me: well if they gave it to me, it is mine

T: no you're not getting it

Me: I don't think I ever will\

T: It's easy, you don't get to choose your name, so its not your name, its not yours to use, all use of names is illegal

T: No, that's illegal too

T: well it is

T: well everything else is, other than that, and you're not allowed to use anything with your name on

Me: hmmm .. there should be disclaimer on the billboards then that it doesn't apply to those that have changed their names

That draft article is great - I like how it starts by trying to sound impartial "Legal name fraud : is the idea that it is illegal to use a legal name" and one might think that's fair enough - that is what that phrase refers to after all and then:

In short, YOU offer up your living child as a sacrifice to Satan while your living child commits sign after sign (sin upon sin) and ADOPT the dead LEGAL DEMON literally breathing life into evil with every creation thenceforth.

Exactly. I had a typo in the links in the deletion reason, though. The actual deletion reason is

So, I read that Wikipedia does not allow "hoaxes", but they do allow pages on confirmed hoaxes.

It makes me think that this would be a great time to create a "Legal Name Fraud (Hoax)" page, would it not?

I admit that I am not scholarly enough to create a proper Wiki page, but perhaps someone here could?

Would be an interesting question for Fam or Arthur or any of the other Wiki guys or gals. Only problem I would see if it could be considered a big enough hoax to make it worth it.
