You would think that Jose would have gotten the message not to mess with jury member or say...federal witnesses? Jose is going to self-destruct over Reno's case and its going to be sad to watch. I hope doesn't hurt anyone in the process. Jose might be the only to realize that Reno is going to jail for a long time and is starting to panic.

I was reading up on jury nullification and found one of my favorite L&O episodes listed on the wiki entry. Does anyone know if the following aired recently?
On the American legal drama Law & Order, which follows criminal trials from the perspective of the police and district attorney, in the eighth season episode "Nullification," the members of a Christian Patriot militia are indicted for murder and armed robbery for their role in the attempted hijacking of an armored car. At trial, the leader of the militia (Denis O'Hare), who represents the group pro se, argues that they are fighting a war against the illegitimate government of the United States, and that therefore the defendants are prisoners of war unlawfully detained in violation of the Geneva Conventions. In his testimony, and later in his closing argument, he explicitly argues in favor of jury nullification in the case as a blow against the "New World Order" and government tyranny. Although the prosecution manages to disqualify and replace two jurors who express sympathy with the militia cause, the trial ends in a hung jury, as one or more jurors agree with the argument in favor of nullification.
If it did, Jose may have gotten the idea from it. There was a gold fringe flag argument in that episode and everything. I hope he didn't. Getting your legal advice from television is not a wise decision.

Probably not. Jury nullification is a top ten item on any list of tax denier fantasies.
That would likely be the reason they put it into the episode. I really should give the writers more credit. Especially after what they did to Elizabeth Rohm. Made me so happy.

Great idea....assuming that a group of jurors, who are mostly old people who can't find a way to get out of jury duty, want to nullify the criminal statutes in question. My guess is that most of them would be more than happy to lock up a few more Renos.

Jury tampering is just the beginning. If he actually manages to get anyone to organize this, he could end up with a RICO obstruction of justice charge.

My own fantasy is that the jury nullifies the law in a criminal tax case, and imposes the death penalty.

Didn't they refer to her as a confidential government informant, as well as a witness? In a warped way, they were not lying. Like if I call you a turnip and turn you into a turnip, then I'm not lying. A little "self-fulfilling prophecy", but whatever.

Where did the idea of Jury nullification come from?
In colonial times, it was the only defense against oppressive British laws; jury nullification was, for example, crucial to the acquittal of John Peter Zenger. Because of cases like that, the doctrine of jury nullification had some appeal to the Founders, and some court decisions from the early history of the U.S. speak of the jury's right to "determine the facts and the law," although it is now a matter of debate to what extent juries were really permitted to do so in practice.
The issue was somewhat unclear in U.S. law until 1895, when the Supreme Court held that the jury has the power of jury nullification, but that the judge does not have to tell the jury they have this power and doesn't have to permit the lawyers to argue it to the jury. That is pretty much where the law stands today.
